It is a hard thing to understand. But sadly, nobody can tell you a good answer. It is a horrible truth, but until every single person in our country realizes this and CARES, it will keep happening.
You can't change a person's mind. You can't change a person's opinion.
Being involved in animal rescue (started my own group several years ago), it just isn't possible to save them all.
Statistics show that in order for very dog and cat in America to have a home and not be PTS, it would mean each person would need to own 7 animals each.
Yes, 7. That means if you have 4 people in your family, you would need to have a total of 28 pets. That is a lot and too much for one single family, even if you had the funds, time, and land.
It is a horrible fact but until the irresponsible breeders stop breeding, we will continue to have this problem.
Reputable breeders know this problem and will only breed their animals if they are in fact improving a breed standard. They won't breed just because their b*tch is in heat or just because they have an unaltered male.
In the state of Georgia (where I am from), every 9 seconds and animal is put to sleep by lethal injection, gassing chambers, and heart stick.
All we can do is aware others to this growing epidemic and do what we can.
