How long does it take to sell a business?
How long do you think it would take to sell a deli (annual sales $260,000). We've been trying to sell it by owner, online, but no luck. Is it better to sign with a business broker or commercial business realtor? Any advice or pointers would be much appreciated. Thank you for your time.

selling your business on line is probably not the best way to do it. you really would be better to list it with a Realtor, they have the clients that are looking for a business. also they can do all the advertising for you and they can reach more people than you. You need to make sure your books are in order and all things are working right and in good condition at your business. applying a fresh coat of paint makes a big difference. The trouble with on line is that it is world wide and there are 1000's, upon 1000's of businesses for sale. You need to focus on your area (city) for a buyer.
as for how long it takes to sell that would depend on many things, such as is the business popular, how much you are asking for it, whether you own or rent the building etc.Source(s): Real Estate agent retired

Hello Brooke95, sometimes a quick sale at $260,000 less than your asking price is better than a long, drawn out process. After all, there’s usually an important reason why you’re looking to sell quickly. So be prepared for the possibility that you may need to set your price below market value and be ready to negotiate.
