    Using html5...

Many web browsers still do not properly support it - if you are building a web site for other people to see rather than your own ego, use xhtml1 which is universally supported.

Failing to Include the DTD header line and explicitly define the html version & page language. Just starting the page with <html> leaves the browser to guess what the content is.

Using masses of javascript & gimmicks rather than concentrating on readability and response time.

Pages should be quick to load (on first view with a clear cache) and have interesting or useful content.

The "visible" parts of the content should be at least 60% of the total page load size.

Not bothering to spellcheck or proof the content...

Visible text should be checked for readability, spelling & grammar.

The html markup should be checked using the W3C validator.

And, creating sites using CMSs rather than actually coding them. The cms overhead and (often) masses of extra code they tend to insert in pages mean they often produce abysmally bad, bloated, slow pages from a technical aspect.

Inconsistent design! Some people think by creating different designs for every web page within a website is great. We make website, so we know how much it is worth to have a great design.

The most common mistake would be improper structuring and not using <nav> and <div> tags in the optimum way.

  • One thing I hate is simple things are so hard to get to that you need to look it up on YouTube.
