I'll just answer your questions in the order you asked them.

1. There is no one common age to have cancer. There are many different types of cancer. Some forms such as hepatoblastoma or nephroblastoma usually appear before the age of 5 whereas other cancers such as chronic leukemias typically don't appear until after the age of 55. There's a risk of cancer at any age, just different types. Age is only a small contributor to cancer formation but there are MANY risk factors involved. There is a greater number of children under the age of 12 with childhood cancers and children/adults over the age of 15 with other cancers than there are of teens between the ages of 12-15. It isn't quite known why there is this decrease of cases between the ages of 12 and 15.

2. There are many different symptoms of cancers depending on the type and subtype, as well as differences between people in general, symptoms will be different. Some symptoms my son had the first time he was diagnosed (with a nephroblastoma) included a lump on his side and blood in his urine. The second time (when he was diagnosed with secondary AML leukemia) some of his symptoms were severe bone pain, sudden anemia, he had what seemed like a cold he couldn't get rid of, he was very clingy and exhausted, and we knew something was very wrong when he was covered in bruises. His third diagnosis (hepatoblastoma) had symptoms of a lump in his abdomen, decreased appetite, jaundice, high AFP levels, and high liver enzyme levels. There are so many types of cancer it really can't be narrowed down to a simple list of symptoms. Although these are all symptoms, he had other ones not off the top of my head at the moment and they're also symptoms of so many different conditions. Not every symptom points to cancer, although when put together they may.

3. No, split ends are not a sign of cancer. Cancer in general is uncontrolled cell division - meaning new (and cancerous) cells are being created at an uncontrolled rate. Split ends have nothing to do with this process.

4. It can be. Bruising is bleeding under the skin. When my son was diagnosed with leukemia he had bruising all over his body. He's 2 so he falls a lot, he's also had a chemotherapy drug that weakens his leg muscles so he falls more than a "normal" 2 year old might. He's expected to have some bruising as all kids do but his bruising was extensive. The smallest bump to the arm from my 1 year old daughter caused him to bruise from elbow to shoulder. Small bruises every once in a while are not a sign of cancer so don't worry yourself too much.

5. It's up to you. If you feel more comfortable with a barber doing it then go ahead. The barber is trained in this work so he/she may do a better job.

People don't seem to be able to read the whole question here! I agree with you,split ends are as normal as having hair itself. I can get my hair trimmed and the split ends are back shortly after anyway. I've had many styles over the years and no matter how short or long it has been,split ends are inevitable. If you tried to combat every split end,you'd end up bald. Not a cool look for my personal taste. I have seen some people that constantly chemically treat their hair,(perms or coloring,etc..) and their hair does look like crap...but hey,it's their hair,not mine. To each their own!

Yes. If you have split ends, you have cancer. If you have cancer, you are going to die. The only way to get rid of cancer is to shave all of your hair, getting rid of all the split ends. That is why men are less likely to develop cancer than women.
