To qualify this, we must consider the increments with which suffering, hunger, violence, etc. come in.
I have a friend, that uses drugs.
I used to see him all the time, and could not really gage his deterioration, mentally and physically.
I moved to another town, and now only see him occasionally, hoping that one day he might stop using drugs.
So far? (over 20 years) he has not.
Now, the fact is, that I rarely see my friend (former childhood friend?) and I probably see him once every two or three years.
From this vantage point, the deterioration of his personality, and health and mental well being, is glaringly obvious.
Conversely? In the day to day life on this planet, it becomes difficult as humans, to really see, the deterioration of our condition, because it happens in small increments, so that we just adapt to the deterioration.
Can you see that this may be the case?
