The Huns were assimilated after Attila the Hun's empire fell apart - - His followers must have interbred with the locals, but no one claims Hunnic ancestry. The Persians assimilated the Medes. The Goths were assimilated by France, Spain, and Italy. There are many other situations, but any situation in which a culture exists and then you suddenly stop hearing about it; that's a case of assimilation.

Another case of genocide by assimiliation was the Russification policy of Alexander III of Russia. Here he tried to make the outlying countries of the Russian Empire more Russian by forcibly suppressing the language and customs of these countries.

The genocide of Native American people by European settlers. Although there are still reservations for these people, most Native American people have been absorbed into general population of the US. Of course, there was also active genocide of the Native Americans e.g., white people killing off the buffalo, blankets sold and given to the Native Americans with small pox virus on them, and the outright slaughter of Native Americans by whites, including having the Native Americans agree to a treaty that the US never really intended to honor.
