Is it normal for puppies to cry all day after tail docking?

My boxer gave birth to nine puppies on sat. The puppies had their tails docked today and theyve been crying ever since. They're not hungry though. i called the emergency vet and they had the nerve to tell me they don't know! is this ok?

If the pups were 3 days old when you got them docked then excessive crying isn't normal. Normally puppies will only yelp a few times or cry for a few minutes then settle down. All of my dogs have been docked as they are working spaniels so what you've written does worry me a bit. If you had the pups docked at the correct age and the are exhibiting excessive signs of distress you might want to have them checked at the vet. If you had the pups docked at a later age this might explain why they're crying so much. Pups are docked at a mere 2-4 days old for a reason.

I've never heard of this. I've seen dockings being done and the pup cries for about 5 seconds literally and then seems to be fine. Who docked them for you? Maybe something went wrong...

They are probably just in pain. They may also be in shock, if they were only born on saturday and had such a painful operation only a few days afterwards it would be pretty likely that they would be terrified.
They must be a pretty crappy vet surgery if they can't even tell you what may be wrong with them, it doesn't sound like they have a lot of experience in this area.

yes, they can be uncomfortable ,imagine having your pinkie cut off you would probably have pain ,but they recover quickly, in a day or so they should be better.
as far as >dinking around waiting<
and im pretty sure 5 days is fairly standard time for croping the tail, any younger would be terribly traumatic.

First, try cutting off the end of your finger and see if you cry all day! Yes, I'm against docking and cropping because it's cruel and PAINFUL! I'm not trying to be rude, but if the "vet" who cut their tails off doesn't know why they're crying and apparently doesn't care, you need another vet fast and you need to get those puppies checked out!

Why did you dink around so long before docking? That's older than necessary & probably why.They'll settle.

Puppies are usually somewhat noisy.

Are they just being the normal puppy noisy, or excessively noisy?

yea its normal, my puppy cried too they should be better in a few days, if not their tails may be infected and you should have tham looked at

Lets cut your tail off and see how would you feel about the pain.Its basic common sense of course their in pain their puppies for God's sake....
