How do mice get into the Volvo XC90?

I've read the other questions about this topic and after doing some research, there is definitely a problem with the Volvo XC90 design. They can come in at night and leave during the day. There is somewhere where there is total access. Not only is it a danger - god forbid the driver gets distracted if a mouse crawls by, but it's a health hazzard as well. And it doesn't take long for mice to perform real damage to the interior.

How are they getting in and how can it be fixed? There's a Ford right next to the Volvo XC90, so while it might be a matter of taste, they've found how to get in.
