Best answer: You can't stop what is a natural hunting instinct. However, you can make it difficult for the cats by fitting them with bells on collars, then the intended prey will hear them coming and have a chance of escaping. Cats rely on their "silent approach" method of hunting and a tinkling bell will ruin that technique. Do make sure the collar is elastic so they can escape if it gets caught up.

The bringing their trophies home is actually part of the cat's instinct to take the prize to a place of safely before settling down to eat it, usually the bringing home is as far as it gets as the cat lose interest after it's done that bit though we all like to think they know we're hopeless hunters and are bringing us a contribution to help out.

A long time ago we had a cat who was a fearsome hunter and would go off hunting on the moorland behind the house, often bringing home a neatly despatched rabbit. Mother would say "Thank you" and clean and prepare it, after which we'd have it for dinner.

Now his teeth are better yet he STILL continues to swallow his dry food whole. It has been a couple of months since the surgery and the vet said there has been enough time for recovery. He just refuses to chew his dry food and we can't keep giving him wet food as its bad for his teeth. We bought a special mat to prevent gorging, now he just swallows his biscuits whole one at a time.

I have had my cat here for 3 weeks, I get a text "your cats **** box stinks. I don t want it by my couch" granted, I clean it every day but I got super crappy litter.... I paid $40 for it.... He has a ridiculously small house. It is setup like a studio apartment. I can t fit it in the bathroom or anything. Long story short.... I get home from work and my cats wire kennel is outside, his $80 bed, his water dish, food dish and lastly, his litter box.... I m so mad. I freaked out because he wouldn t listen. Its literally his way or the highway and he threw my cat outside the whole time I was at work and its 2°.... Granted!! I m a vet tech and a dog groomer. I m so irritated. I need opinions because he makes me feel crazy. He is Russian and grew up in a russian village, where they didn t even have animals.

Apparently my stupid younger brother let the cat out today at some point and she is old enough to get pregnant and has been in heat several times and she is still Yowling like she doesn't realize there are no Male cats in the house (and she has never been outside of the house until today) is it a good sign that... show more

I know it's not normal meowing so I really hope she isnt pregnant yet (and its freezing outside, so hopefully there were no Male cats around)

Hold on to your chairs people, this is a bit long..... About 5 days ago, my cat who is less than 2 years old, started to show signs of having trouble going bathroom. I took him to the vet and was told that he couldn t pee so his bladder was growing larger. Essentially he was having urinary problems and he stayed overnight for two days with a catheter and IV fluids. He had a lot of urine and also some blood in it. I got him back yesterday and was told to give him some medicine and feed him food to help his urinary tract/urethra. It all came out to be $600, and I didn t care! At least he was healthy, or so I thought. Then as the day went on he continually tried to go bathroom and just couldn t, but I ve been seeing droplets of blood left behind which I believe to be urine and blood (not sure). In short, it seems to not have worked and I ve been given things to help him and it s just not showing. I wonder if I should be patient with the medicine and food or go back and really lay it down. I want answers and help, and I can t believe they would send him back when the issue seems to be unresolved. Today is the second day and although he isn t crying, he just isn t himself and I am very worried because I know this sickness is REALLY BAD. Should I go to a different vet? What should I do? Anything helpful would be greatly appreciated.

My cat recently got into a car accident which left his jaw broken he is home now but has gone blind in 1 eye and the vet said he was able to see in the other which he can’t. He’s also only licking the special food he needs to eat until the wires are gone out his mouth, he’s drinking water a lot so he’s peeing a lot but he doesn’t seem to ovbs see where his litter tray is so he is peeing on himself and on his bed. Me and my parents are in constant care of him watching him everyday and trying to hand feed him. It’s a stage now that we think he could be brain dead after he got hit like that. The vet told us to give it a few more days but I know he can pull through eventually but by now it looks like nothing we can do at all him not eating is gonna cause him to lose so much weight than he already has. We hate to see him like this do we keep going with time or go down a path we don’t want to?
