I adopted a senior cat from the pound last year, I've had him for a year and he's such an amazing affectionate cat. I'm a university student (going into a masters) and I'm doing my very best to work while I save, pay all my rent and bills etc. In December, my cat had a heart attack and he almost needed a blood transfusion from a bacteria infection he's apparently had for a long time. I pay $50 a month for him to have heart medication, as well as prescription food which is also expensive. This cat came to me in bad health, even though the adoption agency told me his prior symptoms (puking up stomach acid) was just because he had "excess stomach acid" Today I came home from being away for a night, and there was poop all over my apartment, there was light blood colours on the floor with black specs in it - i think this may have been coming from his pee? He's currently eating fine and drinking fine. I'm worried that I'll go to the vet again, and have to spend another $1000. I really thought adopting this senior cat was a nice thing to do, his foster parent was telling me all the stories of people not wanting him because of how old and slow he is, I loved him when I first met him. I really would do anything for my pets, but I don't know if spending more and more of my savings on him is smart when he seems to keep going downhill in health.

Also, we often go on vacation in summer for like 14 days, can the cat be alone without his owner for that long? (I would hire a petsitter to every third day?)

Best answer: It will take time, just like it would take time for your hair, eyebrows, etc, to grow back after being shaved.

You will see the fur start to come in as a fuzz then it will get longer til it finally fully grows in. It may take months to fully regrow.

Sometimes there are health issues that can cause fur to grow back slowly or not allow it to grow back at all. I had a friend who would shave her very furry dogs for the summer - one had thyroid issues and her fur would not grow back in correctly.

Getting a rabies shot is also hard on their system and your cats body is likely focused on dealing with that as well as recovering from the neutering rather than regrowing hair. If they shaved by his ear there was probably some sort of infection, matting, or other reason. This would not be something that would normally happen for a neuter.

The shaving is to remove the fur from the area of a wound or incision so it can be kept clean.
