Unfortunately I have somehow lost or thrown away the charger lead, and the laptop won t turn on at all because it s battery is broken. I don t care about using it because I plan to throw it out and I have a new laptop. But it leaves me unable to delete the hard drive or anything else on it. Would it still be safe to just take it to a recycling centre? Ps: I did delete my files just off documents, downloads and etc but is that enough?

  • My HP laptop heats up really fast, its 4 years old, how do I make it heat less without spending money?

Best answer: Compressed air might make fan speed too fast, ruin it. Not recommended. Remove bottom cover and clean out the insides. Once cleaned, follow what Huntah says. I do, plus I use a small USB powered fan box to make air flow faster from the grill where air comes out from fan inside. Only $14. I buy Walsoon or Lanyi brand, but many others are available on Amazon or Ebay. Makes a 30*F drop in internal temp.

  • My not so close friend is asking for my laptop. How do I deny ?

She told me that she wants to use it for a seminar. I just don't wanna give my laptop. So can you give me some excuses. I told her that it's personalised and I don't want to change the password and the password is personal etc but I didn't exactly tell her no, cause I don't want to be rude.

  • Why does Apple always invent things first?

iPhones were the first phone to have facial unlock, first to have wireless charging, first to have a notch, etc. MacBooks were the first laptop to have long battery life, Touch ID, and Retina displays. How does Apple manage to invent everything first?

Hi! I'm comparatively technology illiterate :) I have an old laptop with a broken screen that i'd like to get some files off of- of course with a broken screen I can't transfer to an external drive so it looks like I need to pull out the hard drive and get a caddy to be able to read the drive. My questions are: I thought I'd visit you toob to learn how to remove the old hard drive. It seems like its probably a delicate procedure- are there any common pitfalls or rules of thumb for that job? It seems like there are different kinds and sizes of caddy- how do I determine what kind of caddy I need for my old hard drive? Should I remove the hard drive first and then get the caddy, or visa versa (if it matters)? After I have the hard drive out of the old laptop do I need to store it in a certain way? Is there usually software needed for the caddy to "run" or "read" the extracted hard drive, or is it pretty much a File Explorer cut/paste operation?

Recently, I had run into a sudden problem with laptop (I'm typing this on a different laptop), in which I turn it on and get a black screen saying "Preparing Automatic Repair". After this, it (usually) takes me to a System Diagnostics screen where I can perform a hard drive check (Quick and Extensive alike), but either one results in a notification telling me that there is no hard drive installed. I have no idea how this could have happened or why, but this leads to my main question: how will the people at Best Buy (presumably) fix this issue? And will it be able to salvage my last browsing session and my files from the old hard drive, or is all of that lost forever now?

It was a refurb I bought 2 years ago from Newegg. Little did i know the seller was a 3rd party. The computer has had the same problem since the day I bought it. I returned it 6-7 times and the same problem happens over & over. They usually do a factory reset but it does not solve anything and their tech guys never communicate. The warranty has long passed and they refused a refund every time. I use the latest windows operating system for regular people. I use Chrome mostly but had used Edge in the past and feel confident the problem is not browser related. My laptop runs Webroot 24/7 and I run the free version of malwarebytes about once a week and neither has caught a virus. Webroot does warn of dangerous sites on occasion which I avoid. I am confident the problem is NOT a virus but a stability issue of some kind. Please answer as if its not a virus because I am 99.9 percent sure its not. It's difficult for me to describe what it does. Unstable is the best word. The problem is not always but often. I can be in the middle of an email or message board post and the computer will become unstable as if the page starts not being stable and I can tell I will lose my page, my email or the font will change, the innards of the page will become really large. I had a TON more written but YAs limitations refused most. Acer Laptop R5-471T-51UN
