Add On Fan (External) Cooling for Laptops?

My laptop's fan has malfunctioned and unfortunately I live in a country that does not have the parts to replace it. I was suggested to buy an external fan to solve the issue but would it really help with cooling my computer? I don't care models or price points, I mostly care if this is a viable solution.

Why is battery percentage going down with a/c recharger adapter plug plugged in? Is my laptop going to break then when the battery ?

    Favorite Answer:

Something is obviously wrong with the charging system. It could be:

    - a bad charger

    - a bad battery pack

    - a damaged charger-to-laptop port

You may need to find professional help for this if you're not technically inclined.

How do I turn off a single USB port on a laptop?

    Favorite Answer:

EDIT TO ADD:  Your idea is good, however new desktops have USB ports soldered into the motherboards and cannot be "unplugged."  something to consider before you report that to the company.

My last job was with the State Judicial branch.  We had laptops for everyone that worked at home as well as judges on the bench.  We had everyone sign a form which told them exactly what they could and could not do with state (company) equipment.  We still had people who abused and misused them, but the form kept a lot of people from 'downloading weird executables' or attaching non-state (non-company) equipment. it also gave me, the IT guy, power to delete/remove non-state software etc whenever the laptop was in my office.   A lot of companies and schools do this as a way of letting users know the rules.  Here's a bunch: https://www.google.com/search?q=corporate+use+of+e...

    ==============================

Original Answer: In effect, you really can't.  What's worse, is that it won't keep people from shoving things into the USB ports to see if they are working.  What I would do in your position is to get your IT person to put out a set of 'tips' on how to work with USB so as not to destroy the machines.  In fact, if you have a small office, this could be done as a live presentation to make sure that all employees are aware of the issue and that they have all been taught the proper way work with office equipment.

If sparks are coming out of a USB, the wrong thing has been inserted.  USBs don't carry enough power to create sparks.  Teach your people the proper way and then hold them responsible if need be.

I want a new laptop for school but can’t fully afford one- what do I do?

I’m 16 going into my junior year, I’m in a few ap classes this year and am doing dual enrollment and feel as though I need a new laptop to complete my work. I’ve never really used one all that much, I could complete most of my work on my phone, but I think especially considering I’ll be online this year it’s long overdue that I get a laptop for my schoolwork. I have complete intent to pay for the laptop myself- and my paychecks are usually pretty hefty. My issue is- I need to save for a car as well and can’t pour all of my money into a new laptop in one go. I would very well be able to pay off the laptop over a period of time- say 12-18 months and I wouldn’t mind paying interest on it, but sellers such as Best Buy do 18 month financing with no interest. My issue is that one- I’m a minor- two i would have to apply for a credit card of some sort and I would like to get this laptop on my own without assistance from my parents. Any ideas of where and how I can do this?

Why are the laptops removing the cd/dvd writer ?

    Favorite Answer:

more  people  are  migrating  to  cloud-based  storage … disc-writing  media  has  become  outdated … and  frowned  upon  by  societal  factions.  usb  has  also  taken  on  much  of  what  disc-burning  systems  used  to  offer.  streaming  video  'n  audio  media  has  diffused  much  of  the  necessity  in  disc  systems.

last  of  all … removing  optical  disc  systems  makes  for  a  unit  which  is  lighter,  slimmer  and  contains  less (if not all)  moving  parts … which  also  cuts  down  on  heat  generation.  one  can  always  get  a  peripheral  disc-writer.

Why is the fan running all the time when the laptop is plugged in, but when it's on battery, the fan rarely turns on?

    Favorite Answer:

Well the power coming from the plug is regulated voltage and current meaning it ain't stopping, changing levels or slowing down till its connected. It is constantly coming and being pushed to the computer. This heats up the computer thus the fan has to stay on to keep it cool, the power from the battery isn't constantly pushing power the way the power from the wall is pushing, the power from the battery is only coming based on what the computer is demanding cause its not regulated voltage, its levels can change based on what the computer demands hence this doesn't heat up the computer too much as the battery isn't 100 percent all the time as the power source from the plug is.

Does resetting a Dell laptop with a Microsoft account on it erase any data on the account (e.g. Word documents, Excel spreadsheets)?

I was shipped a Dell laptop by my cousin and was told nothing important was on it, and when I asked how to reset the password, he said that I would "figure it out", but was not told how to do so. I figured out how to do it, but if I remove personal data on it and completely wipe the drive, will this affect any data on his Microsoft account and on his other Microsoft 10 computers?
