The sales guy at Best Buy said that "solid state" laptops are the best way to go; less moving parts = longer lifespan. So, he bought an ASUS Q325. Now, he comes into my room telling me that the laptop is hot. Well S***. I know mine is a "solid state", and it rarely gets warm. I put the laptop next to my ear, and I heard a fan or something moving inside, and it has a little vent thing on the side. He thinks he got ripped off, and I guess he could be right. Any idea if it can be a solid state and have a fan in it, or anybody know anything about the ASUS Q325?

So I'm thinking of going to my local computer store and repairing my cooling fan, which I would know the repairman would reset all my data and make the laptop start from fresh. The problem is, I have kids who have data files on this laptop that they need as either homework assignments, or just study guides they submit through typing and downloading it. How can I save all these files and important downloads without getting a hard drive to remove it? I don't want to get a hard drive because I have at least 400 GB on my local disk (c:) Any advice?

  • Got a computer from wife's mother in law, how do I wipe out all sensitive material on the computer? Like a company she worked for?

Best answer: If you don't want to spend 6 months like me learning how to permanently wipe out everything from a computer, then I recommend, for you to bring your computer to a computer shop, and you let a computer technician do it, for you.

but also this can happen when the graphics card fails (indeed, that is probably the most common culprit).
Given your description that it sometimes happens in a "resource-heavy program"
if you mean "graphics-intensive" then check the graphics card first...
otherwise check the CPU and RAM first.

This is useful for testing reliability (stress testing) of CPU and RAM
    https://mersenne.org/download/
You'll want to run the program overnight
Night 1 - small FFTs mode, which stress-tests the CPU.
Night 2 - blend mode, which stress-tests the RAM.

If you are overclocking either RAM or CPU and the stress test fails, you should be able to "dial down" the appropriate overclock speed to get the system to function reliably again.

If both of those stress tests run without error, then take a hard look at the graphics board.

When i go to 'Device Manager' then, 'Sound, Video and game controllers', under that it says 'High Definition Audio Device', and when i click on the properties to that it says 'This device is working properly'. I have tried uninstalling it and re-installing it and it didn't change a thing. I have tried going to 'Control Panel' then 'Sounds', and when i click on 'Sounds' nothing happens at all. I tried going on 'Services' under 'Computer' and i cannot find 'Windows Audio' on the list of services. When i go to 'Notification Area Icons' On sound, it says 'The Audio service is not running' and the volume has a red x on it. I have a Dell Inspiron, and am using Windows 7 (64 bit)

  • I need a new desktop machine. Does anyone have any opinions?

I am tired of this 10 year old dinosaur. It wasn't a strong machine when new. I am thinking about having a new machine put together. AMD has some new parts that appear quite capable at a fraction of the cost of an Intel part. I am not a gamer. I need advice.

  • I found an old desktop, and it won't post.?

Hello fellow Yahoo users, just a beginner of computer stuff here. Long story short, I get an old desktop for free, and I want to get it working just so I can fool around with it a bit. But the problem is that it doesn't post what so ever, and it doesn't send out any video signal at all.
