The cause is the magnet(s) in the speaker attracting or deflecting the electron beam
that strikes the phosphors on the CRT screen and makes them glow.

If some of the effect remains after you move the speaker away,
the screen (actually the shadow mask inside it) would need to be degaussed (demagnetized).

Any good TV repair shop should have a degausser,
but as time goes by many shops will get rid of that tool due to lack of use.

[Modern TVs are completely unaffected by magnetism.]

As much as I like them, CRTs are History.

Other DVD discs play fine. I really don't want to have to replace the seasons that have damaged discs.

that is, at the moment of the deal being done.

TVs are rarely worth enough for selling them to be a viable option.

One way to make a guess at a value is to find a comparable model currently selling in stores
and offer yours for between 25% and 35% of the shelf price of the new one.

According to what I just found, that means you should ask no more than $65 for your 5 - year - old TV,
and it might bring only $35 to $40, depending on the buyer.

That doesn't mean it is actually Worth any of those figures.

Ultimately, you might be better off finding a use for it
so you might get more value out of it than you can by selling it.

  • Why are Smart TV browsers so slow?

Best answer: Smart TVs don't have a lot of processing power, and very limited RAM.

They're a good example of "Just because you CAN do something...doesn't mean you SHOULD."

Stick to your phone, tablet, or computer for browsing.

If anyone could help me with this ridiculous annoyance that would be so great!
