  • Has anyone been on holiday in Thailand before? How much did you spend? I would like to go for 2 weeks?

Best answer: It is quite cheap, the real cost is in getting there and accommodation if you are going to be choosy. I stayed in a floating hotel (bamboo rafts) on the River Kwai which was basic but inexpensive.

  • Why is it so common for Bangkok taxi drivers to take strange routes? Why don't they ever take a direct route?

  • Thailand Sex Tourism?

  • Would it be fair to say that Thailand is no longer a cheap place to travel to?

I remember a time when you could have a holiday in Thailand for "next to nothing", but it seems times have changed. Sure, Thailand is cheap if you want to live on staple food. But if you actually want to enjoy yourself in Thailand, it seems that you have to spend a considerable amount of cash nowadays. Things seem overpriced nowadays...now beers can cost up to $5 in some establishments, and I have seen meals for $10. And even if you do want to live cheap, it seems to be getting harder and harder to find good street food, because they all seem to be disappearing. And as for "shopping", well...when I go to department stores etc. to buy things, everything is overpriced. (If you want something inexpensive you have to look around, or know where to go, or buy something crap...because in most places it will be overpriced nowadays.) What are your thoughts?

  • Can you tell the difference between a Thai and a Vietnamese based on their looks only?

Best answer: The only way is from the language they speak. I was in Vietnam for 2 years and am in Thailand for 13 years. I could tell from the language. From looks, it would be harder. Just ask to see their Thai ID card or their passport or visa.
