I've gained 11 pounds since the beginning of this year and I'm feeling really crappy (physically and mentally) because my clothes fit much more snug and I don't have a lot of energy or motivation to work out now, which is so unlike me because for YEARS I ran 3+ miles daily!! I've been binge eating on sweets a lot lately. I've noticed that once I allow myself to have one little treat, I lose ALL control. So if I want to stop eating sweets, I have to quit cold turkey. That's just how I am. Today is day 2 and I'm already so tempted by really intense cravings for things like chocolate and dutch apple pie and boston creme doughnuts! Agh! How long will it take me to stop craving unhealthy sweets? I'm still eating fruits, mostly in homemade smoothies (frozen berries, almond milk, and protein powder). I'm a 25 year old female. Thanks

  • Is it true you lose most weight at the start of a diet compared to later on in the diet?

Best answer: Yes, but weight isn't the same as fat. When people start a diet, they tend to eat less food and healthier food. The result is that people have less water retention and waste in the GI tract that registers as less weight on the scale. The heavier a person is, the easier it is for them to lose fat too.

  • If I eat plenty of sugar, but burn all the calories, will i gain belly fat?

Best answer: There is a bit of an optimisation to make: if you exercise too much (while keeping your calorie intake high enough) you won't be able to properly recover, so you could lose muscle and gain a bit of fat instead, but if you don't exercise enough (despite reducing your calories accordingly) you can lose muscle... show more
Best answer: There is a bit of an optimisation to make: if you exercise too much (while keeping your calorie intake high enough) you won't be able to properly recover, so you could lose muscle and gain a bit of fat instead, but if you don't exercise enough (despite reducing your calories accordingly) you can lose muscle as well and potentially gain fat.
But those are relatively weak effects. If you stick to your maintenance intake and you burn calories with something like low-intensity cardio, your fat gain/loss will be almost zero regardless of your level of activity.

Update: "bad calories" don't really exist. In first approximation one calorie is one calorie, and the main problems of sweets are that first, rather than you exhaust your calorie quota without having taking advantage of it to get vitamins and minerals, and secondly that sugar is addictive and it's hard to stop and respect your calorie limit. But if you look more closely there are many ways one kind of calorie in one kind of context can behave slightly differently than other. So sugar could indeed make you a bit fatter than let's say oatmeal, but at a given number of calories that's a weak effect.

  • Cheated on preop gastric bypass diet.?

Having gastric bypass surgery in two days. I'm on preop liquid diet and I just cheated by having some rotisserie chicken with skin. No rice, or any additional carbs. will my liver show it on surgery day? I've been in liquids and protein shakes for the past past two weeks. I'm scared to tell my doctor.

Best answer: how about skipping dinner, instead of the most important meal of the day ?.......sorry to inform you, but it is way more than just calories.....I struggled for years...... your diet, it is the why behind the way you feel....I'm friends with 3 CERTIFIED NUTRITIONISTS, and they reco, to the people who ask them, about what foods to eat; to avoid commercial eggs- cage free are fine, avoid refined oils, avoid flour products, avoid sugar, and avoid milk....like half the grocery store....quite a challenge to young folk, many of whom are victims of advertising on tv, they eat the garbage that generates profits, not health and wonder why they can't function properly.....nobody taught them, we were born into commerce, and profits rule, not health...I'll bet you never knew that the AMA's bylaws state, their job is to protect doctors profits....it may not seem like much, but in the big scheme of things, it means a lot....anyways, get your diet in order
and most likely anxiety will fade from a major issue to a minor one......RECENTLY, I stopped eating bread, and I was surprised by 2 things that I experienced, better healthier BM's, and a clearer thinking head....expected neither one, but both were quite noticeable......best wishes....
