It looks like this and a US Passport are all I need to rent a car, but I've never actually driven a car in a left-side country. I've ridden in cars in Ireland, Japan, and the UK, but have never been behind the wheel. Will they require me to take some sort of test? Even if they don't require a test, are there any good resources or places stateside that would help me to be as prepared as possible?

wait until they get to the other side of the road (still on road but not on my side) or until they get onto the sidewalk? Would I obstruct traffic if I do wait for them to get onto the sidewalk? I live in Alberta if that matters. Thank you.

  • Why aren't 4 speed or 5 speed columns shifters more common?

Best answer: A column shift manual transmission requires some rather complex linkage to make the system work. The more gears, the more complex it becomes. It's a lot simpler to shift the transmission with a floor mounted shifter that's directly connected to the transmission.
