My boyfriend has a giant American flag hanging up in his living room. I like it a lot, and a lot of Marines he served with who gave their lives have signed the flag. However his ex girlfriend had signed it, and it wouldn’t be a big deal if she didn’t write a bunch of love stuff along with it. However, he has asked me to move in and one of my conditions was to cover up only her writing on the flag. I tried an oil based white sharpie and it didn’t work, her writing bled through the white; and he tried covering it up with white duck tape which also didn’t work because the tape didn’t stick to the flag as planned. I want it to look nice and not be very noticeable that something was covered up. Once it’s covered up, I was planning on paying to get the whole flag preserved in some way, so it’s really important to both of us that it still look nice. Any ideas?

  • I want to do art commissions but have no idea how to do them?

Best answer: You would set those terms with the client. If you were working digitally then a file might be acceptable, but for "traditional" art I would expect (and probably most clients) to receive the original.

If a certain country was a theme for example, Brazil, how would I go about describing the country with 9 photos. Also, I would like to have each photo different (for example, I wouldn’t want to do two pictures of Brazilian cuisine) but, if necessary, I will. So far, for two photos, I would do an example of their cuisine, and a popular tourist destination, just to give you an idea. Thank you in advance.

What’s avaerage rate per hour for an amateur to charge for this sort of thing? I feel like I should charge a little high because I have to do some editing and that usually takes a while. I need actual number people. Thanks so much.

I never paid much mind to it because I just told myself "it is what is" but now I want to apply for jobs that require I send in photos of my ID with my application before any interview and I worry that I will be looked over because of my awful photo (In which I also look miserable by the way). So I wanted to know If it s possible to get my photo retaken and a new ID issued to me. I don t mind if I have to pay another fee.

  • Are my pictures good? (Be honest, I'm open to constructive criticism.) Is there anything I'm doing wrong?

    Best answer: What I like:
    They're not over processed.
You show you know how to control the depth of field.
You show you know how to properly expose a scene.
You got down to eye level when photographing many of the animals. Avoid shooting down on your subject unless you want to invoke a feeling of weakness such as if the animal was injured in a cage.

    What I don't like:
    1. Uninteresting lighting in all but a few images. Avoid mid-day sun unless the harsh lighting adds something special to your images or helps tells the story.
    2. Uninteresting subjects with the exception of the Rolex clock which looks like it was taken by a different photographer when compared with the rest of the images. Seven billion people take photos of their cats, so if you're going to do it, it has to be one heck of an image with exceptional lighting with an exceptional moment. Otherwise it's just another of the billion upon billion of cat photos that already litter the internet.

    3. Work on your composition, especially with landscapes. When making a landscape, it's customary to have an interesting foreground element, an interesting element in the middle, and an interesting element in the background. None of your landscape images follow this rule. Think about juxtaposition of the various elements within your compositions. For example, take a look at the harbor image with the sign "Public Market." The word "Market" was juxtaposed over the hills in the background making it difficult to read the word.

    4. Think about why you're taking the photo and then remove everything that does not support that reasoning. What if you can't remove something such as a car? Well, then you have two options: don't take the image because the composition is a failure, or remove it in post.

    5. Don't partially crop items. Image #3 of the bikes, you cropped off a part of the wheel. In image #4, you cropped off a bit of the rear of a car. In photography, if you do things a little bit of the way, it looks like an accident; as if you didn't see/notice that you cropped off a bit of the tire or bumper.

    6. Pay attention to your backgrounds and avoid bright backgrounds. In the first duck image, there's a glaring blob of white in the upper left corner. The viewer's eye wants to go to the brightest part of an image, and in this case it's an out-of-focus, super-bright, section of the image that adds nothing to the story.

    7. You need to have a strong and dominate subject. Just like when writing an sentence, you must have a strong subject in your photos. The image of the Ferris wheel is an image where the viewer is left wondering just what exactly are they supposed to be looking at.

    8. Avoid solid blacks and blown-out highlights without detail. Sometimes one may see a famous photographer break this rule, but for now as a beginner, your goal is to have details in your shadows and highlights. The exception is super-bright highlights such as the sun where it's normal to have the highlights blown out. But in your sunset shot with the super-black hill, that's a mistake in my opinion.

Overall not bad for a beginning photo student.

I'm an aspiring artist and it seems like every time I post new content, my friend follows suit with something very similar. As a creator trying to have a unique look it's very grinding to me. She's told me that what I do is inspiring, but I'm not sure if she's being inspired or just copying my ideas nowadays. It's gotten so bad that when I post something successful I can tell sometimes days in advance what she'll take from the piece to put in her own work. I create designs and sell them for profit. She noticed how well they were doing and one week later she changed her entire set up to look very similar to mine. It's noteworthy to mention that her set up looked nothing like mine (and has been consistently the same for years now) prior to her finding mine. Her designs themselves are different, but the way she advertises them and showcases them is exactly like mine now. Am I crazy for letting this bother me so much? What should I do?
