  • Why doesn't the MVP award just automatically go to the player with the highest WAR?

WAR is the ultimate stat in determining the value of a player, it takes into account everything from batting, defense and pitching. WAR is unique in being able to compare pitchers to batter with the same stat, thus if the highest WAR in the league was a pitcher he would win the MVP.

Doesnt mean win right away but they can make a huge eap forward. Otani will also compliment Trout by hitting left handed so a pticher would have Trout and Otani back to back on right one left. Otani wants to be on the west coast but why San Diego where there is no chance of winning and Seattle yes have had superstars from Japan but have more of a difficult travel schedule and also have underachieved with the Likes of Felix and Iwakuma leading the rotation and Seager and Cano and Cruz.

  • If advanced stats are most important, then why does it seem like most elected MVP candidates always have the highest batting average?

My argument is that one can make an argument every year for a guy that doesn t have the highest batting average, yet most of the time the guys that don t have a 300 average are not elected. Why do you think that is? I m not saying they are never elected guys hitting under 300, but a lot of times they re not.

Best answer: Granderson will turn 37 before Opening Day next season and will undoubtedly want more than the salary Detroit will pay Mikie Mahtook, who's penciled in to start in left next season. Sure, Granderson hit 26 homers last year but he also hit just .212 and struck out 123 times. If he shared his knowledge with Mets/Dodgers outfielders it didn't have much of an impact so I don't see a team that dumped contracts with the intention of rebuilding bringing in a player who is obviously washed-up.

Dr. Jobe introduced a transformative and pioneering surgical technique that has resurrected the careers of uncounted pitchers -- amateurs, professionals, guys in the majors, and even one HOFer, John Smoltz. Jobe brought a profound and enduring (and revolutionary and continuing to improve) change to the great game, for the better, which is exactly the sort of contribution the Hall should seek to honor.
