Trying to find new bands that capture that old 60 s 70 s rock tone, like Zeppelin, ACDC, Aerosmith, the whole shebang. I know everyone talks about them, but Greta Van Fleet is similar to what I m talking about: new youthful groups with similar sound to older rock.

Best answer: This is actually a pretty good "band vs band" question, for a change. Really made me think.

As a teen and young adult, I was a huge Van Halen fan. They were my "favorite" band for several years and I have seen them in concert 4 (maybe 5?) times (so many times it's hard to keep them straight). I love Metallica, and their cumulative effect rivals Van Halen in my rock music fandom, but Metallica was never "my favorite band" at any point, and I think the music they are making now is terribly mediocre.

So, I would have to say I prefer Van Halen.

Best answer: um, both bands started the same time (1968), and both have very distinct styles.
Zep was from London and had the definitive style of UK rockers of the time, but with a more laid back and open sensibility.
Rush was from Canada, and was one of the first popular rock bands from there. their musical style was epic, and their lyrical style was more like storytelling, with more allusions to fantasy scenarios than LZ. they were also laid back, but were more serious in their style, where Led Zep preferred to be more easy-going. they were both equally skilled, but Rush tended to be liked more by nerdy kids (mostly do to their fantasy undertones), while Zep was liked typically by the more popular kids, and had more top 40 hits. i mostly attribute this to the fact that Rush's songs tended to be longer and more drawn out while LZ's hits were often between 2-4 minutes on average.
i like them both equally, but will submit that there have been far more famous numbers by Led Zeppelin than Rush.

I am 61 and just love certain music from the 60's and 70's when I was young, but I can't say I like a whole of music from times before that except for some crooners like Sinatra and Tony Bennett. I've bought music by both of them. Out of what you listed, I like Abba, The Beatles, The Doors, The Mamas and Papas.
