  • Agree or Disagree: Selena Gomez looks like Demi Lovato and Kim Kardashian reminds you of Snooki?

Best answer: Disagree. Selena and Demi, though both are natural brunettes, look nothing alike. I am not a fan of Snooki but I would never insult her by associating her at all with that bunch of mudsharks.

  • Why doesn't anyone talk about Miley Cyrus anymore?

Best answer: She's not doing much that's newsworthy. You have to have a shock factor these days. It's probably by choice.

I love his work but because of this, I don't quite feel the same about him anymore. The same goes for so many other celebrities who may have something similar or entirely different (Kevin Spacey, Harvey Weinstein, Michael Jackson, Chris Brown, Kayne West, etc). Curious to hear your responses!

Best answer: Humans are hardwired to worship larger-than-life figures who succeeded well in an attempt to emulate them in terms of prevailing normative social standards. The behaviour is a survival instinct hardwired into humans to copy successful people who adopted techniques that would improve survivability. For example, a tribe found it hard to catch birds by hand for later consumption, but a hunter came along who invented bow and arrow fared well in his/her hunt and became a celebrity because that person could impart knowledge that would improve others lives. Basically, we emulate "successful" people because it allows us to improve our own lives for doing so.

Emulating and following people who achieved success and fame is not necessarily a bad thing. However, in our modern culture, celebrity worshiping has received bad press because of the bad role model celebrities being given attention to by the media which is being fueled by our unhealthy celebrity worshiping. We worship (or worse emulate) these bad role models because they are wealthy, but we don't think how and why they achieved their success in the first place; and we don't consider too what kind of standard we are setting for giving attention to celebrities who are famous for - well- doing nothing.
