Not much here, but I am going to clear some of that smoke in my head and take to the New Mexico mountains for three days. I want to run by some of my supplies. It’s been a few years since I last trekked into the wilderness like this, so if I’m missing something or if you could recommend something, I would be very gracious. So I have about three days supply of dry food, mostly freeze dried Mac n cheese and chicken. I have my sleeping bag and a single person tent, a pair of day clothes, a thermal shirt and pants for sleeping, an extra pair of pants, a fleece coat, a fleece hat, my ax, my knife, a waterproof case for electronics and my fire starters, a poncho, a space blanket(never really needed it, but it’s compact), a few pieces of kindling. This seems like all I need for a couple of days. Oh and I also have my revolver in case of an emergency. Other than that, if you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them!

Best answer: Ricky, if you've never been camping and are going to run a primitive camp site then yes nature is going to come calling at some point. Getting used to the hunker position can be new for some folks; just remember to make sure where your clothing is at in regards to your "drop" zone. Especially your hoody and back edge of your jeans.
Some folks will look for a low lying branch on a tree to sit on so they don't have to hunker down and others will put there back against a tree so they have a support to lean against and do a wide leg spread to drop in the zone.
A couple of things to think about, if your in an area that has camp trails make sure to find an area away from the foot path; just being a good steward of the land and hiking areas. If your going to be in one spot for several days FIND AN AREA AWAY FROM YOUR CAMP, You don't want bugs and varmints showing up in your camp area. Some folks will urinate in areas around their camp as a deterrent to some animals like coyotes and raccoons. Just be prepared for some odor if it's summer time. And remember to pack plenty of but.t tape with you.

North Face has bags that are made with down and rated to 0 degrees, yet some of them are $200 and others are $800. Does anyone know why these bags made by the same company with the same temperature ratings have such vastly different prices?

Just bought a new Coleman Evanston 8 screened tent for a week long camping trip at the beach in Gulf Shores. Rain is expected and even though the tent claims it offers a WeatherTek system I still worry. Would covering it with a tarp help or make it worse? Thought maybe having something rubbing against the rainfly might actually cause it to leak. Also, what size tarp would you recommend for a 15 × 12 ft tent and what would be the best way to attach it? This is my 1st camping trip in 15 years. Thank you.
