Best answer: I think with the gestational diabetes in the background, you have a good reason to watch your carbs...forever. As you may have been told, diabetes is there lurking and waiting and is a terrible disease. I have it now and didn't realize all through my life I had a problem handling carbs, booze, sugar. I could have a couple of drinks and a very heavy feeling like I couldn't think and thought it was because of the alcohol...nope, now I know...it was the surge of sugar in my system. Before I forget, get the book by Dr. Sears...the Sears diet I think it was called. It's all about eating balanced small meals to keep your sugar from spiking. It's important and real important for you. He also talks about being prediabetic and those foods that spike your sugar too fast. It's that surge of insulin that puts the fat on your body and why when you overeat, with all the insulin needed, you put on fat. I think controlling your carbs is more important than cutting calories. Portions are important as is exercise. It is the white carbs that are the worst for you and should be eaten in extremely small portions. The worst is potatoes...worse than candy...but you know them...sugar, flour, milk, rice. For carbs you do need to eat the green ones...lots of salad without gooey dressing. And all those good green veggies, don't skip them. One should have a small plate...half salad, one quarter green veggies and/or a lot of the good colored veggies, and a quarter meat...the size of your palm or less. If you eat this way with portions and exercise, you will not only lose weight but you will feel so much better. No one talks about insulin and dieting but insulin is what puts fat on your body. I think you need to eat balanced and some of the diets out there are basically harmful because they are bad eating habits. I went to my nieces house for dinner and they were all on the one with all the fats you could eat. I got brocolli drenched in butter and fatty meat and mashed potatoes with sticks of butter in it. That is just so bad for you and instant heart attack. Sure, common sense should tell you that your body can't handle large amounts of fat or carbs/sugar. And leave all sugar alone..even the diet ones. They are terrible for you and the diet stuff can cause insulin resistance and that is diabetes and where I think I got it all from. Eat wisely and less and exercise. That's all you got to do. I would change doctors too. Your doctor is an idiot.
