  • How do you tell if it’s rennet from an animal?

I want to but mozzarella cheese but my guests staying with me are vegetarian and don’t eat rennet. When I read the ingredients on the cheese it says rennet but doesn’t specify.

  • Why do some vegan activists call people that eat meat rapists?

When the cows are inseminated they are held in place in a thing like a chute. Animal activists didn't name this device, the dairy industry did. And they called it "the rape rack".

"During artificial insemination (AI), a dairy worker inserts one of his arms into the rectum of a restrained cow and, with his other arm, inserts a rod-like device called an Al gun into her vagina. The Al gun, which contains bull semen, is pushed in further until it reaches the cervix (the entrance to the uterus). The semen is then injected into the uterus."

Impregnation against one’s will using forcible restraint pretty much sounds like rape to me.

Best answer: Either your mother is ignorant of the facts, or she is trying to manipulate you. Or both.

Whether or not you eat meat will NOT affect your height. If you were deprived necessary nutrition all throughout your childhood, it could certainly affect your growth. But, by age 16, you have likely reached your full height. Most girls stop growing at around age 15. Statistically -- meaning if you are like most girls -- you will NOT grow any taller, no matter what you do.

As long as you are receiving adequate calories and nutrition, NOBODY has the right to tell you what -- or how much -- to eat. If you (or your mother) are really worried, ask your mother to make you an appointment with your doctor, who will run blood lab work to make sure you are healthy, and with a registered dietitian, who will help you structure a nutritionally-sound vegan/vegetarian diet.

  • My husband added honey to my tea - I’m on the vegan diet...Why do I feel betrayed?

Best answer: Honey is the easiest one for people to forget.
It could have been disrespect, but honestly, what is gained by letting that bother you?
Keep doing what you are doing and let that speak for its own merit. If you believe in what you are doing, that is more important than what he thinks.

I’ve become morally ok with the idea of eating ethically raised diary and eggs but the idea of eating them makes me want to throw up although I want to eat them. I’m not quite sure how to explain this and I just want to know who I’m supposed to go to. Like should I got to a doctor, a nutritionist, a therapist..etc?

I’ve been vegan for about 2 years and have hated it this past year. I’ve decided I don’t want to be vegan but the thought of eating dairy or anything non-vegan scares me.

alriGht so uh storytime. im very much a vegetarian and my parents dislike it a lOt. I have a lot of health problems including dizziness, fatigue, diarrhea, im literally a ghost, and I bruise badly rly easily. ive been vegetarian/vegan for over a year (I was vegan starting last August but switched over to vegetarian in December) nd my parents started being disapproving when I asked for iron supplements. my parents don't take me for checkups or bloodwork when I ask because im "doing this to yourself" because being vegetarian is "making you like this". i told my stepmom my reasoning as to why im vegetarian and how i feel nd she told me that when i go to the hospital ill learn my lesson. it wasn't as in like "oh im worried" its like "ill laugh in your face cuz i told you so". maybe im just being a dumbass child but A) it would cost less for me to go to the hospital for a simple checkup or maybe some iron supplements then me being in the hospital nd being in a serious risk and B) is it normal for parents to like casually want their children to be in the hospital for a lesson? i won't give up vegetarianism but if anyone has any suggestions as to what i should do to get through to them that would be greatly appreciated:)

Best answer: As one answer stated, the only way to reduce cholesterol in eggs is to either eat the same number of smaller eggs possibly or reduce the number of eggs you eat. As several other answers have pointed out however the cholesterol found in eggs does little to affect your overall cholesterol level. The human body produces the majority of cholesterol in our systems and in at least some cases, a reduction in dietary cholesterol has led to an increase in production of cholesterol by our bodies. Your best bet is not to worry about cholesterol found in eggs and instead include foods that eliminate bad cholesterol from your body such as oats, barley, whole grain, green beans, nuts, fruit, etc.

Just as a followup however, the egg yolk, according to some studies I have read, contains the majority of the cholesterol found in eggs. So the obvious action would be to use just egg whites and ignore the yolks. However studies also suggest that if the yolk is removed the human body does not derive the full range of nutrients found in egg whites suggesting that the healthiest diet is one that includes both the yolk and the egg white. As with any diet, a healthy balance is best, not the complete elimination of one food type (excluding specific medical requirements obviously).
