When i saw her this morning she told me she enjoyed keeping him but so glad that Monday the 18th is the last day. I corrected her by saying I needed her help until the 19th and she said that she thought that until the 19th meant that I would not need the childcare On the 19th. MY QUESTION: Does saying until the 19th mean that the 18th (the day before) was the last day or would it make the 19th be the last day she watches him???

I already got the son something, so it can focus either on the family or just parents. I'm thinking something like a box of chocolates- that kind of gift. However, they don't eat chocolate or any kind of junk food, so I'm kind of stuck. They don't really do anything fun- they're pretty boring. I was thinking of getting a gift card or something, but it just seems a little weird to me since they're already rich. Any ideas??

  • Why do you have to work a day before and a day after in order to get paid for the holiday?

Best answer: so you are not extending it into an even longer holiday/mini-vacation...also, those days usually entail more work to prepare or recover from the holiday off, so work production is an issue on those days

So who is saying it's offensive and we need to say happy holidays?

    Best answer: Bavaria, Germany, here.

Here and in other catholic regions, St Nicholas Day is the 6th of December, and it used to be a tradition that some person disguised as St Nicholas (imagine him like Santa Claus) was accompanied by his sidekick, a man dressed in a brown monk's gown and with a sack, known as "Krampus" or "Rufus the monk". Allegedly, children who didn't confess their yearly sins to St Nicholas (who read them from a book the parents gave him) would go into the sack, but if they'd promise to obey the next year, Rufus the Monk would have some gift for them in his sack.

As this is considered too frightening for some children nowadays, they usually skip the Rufus, but you can rent a Santa on 6th december in every major town.

It's a minor holiday, however. My family still celebrate it, but as there are no little kids around, usually with a plate of walnuts and tangerines, and a candle in the middle. Walnuts grow here in abundance and are just dry enough to eat at that time, and tangerines come from the middle east, where St Nicholas was from.

St Nicholas, btw, is the patron saint of all refugees. I don't think we need a special day to think of them, but if you're catholic, think twice.

She usually gets us jewellery from Tiffany which I would be very grateful for but I don’t really like jewellery so I wouldn’t want to get it for no reason. My mum keeps saying that she wants it to be special and that she doesn’t want to get me something cheap for my 16th so does anyone have any ideas? I already have a phone, a laptop, and iPad and designer bags so I really have no idea
