Parenting a newborn isn't all cuddles and giggles and ooey-gooey Hallmark moments. In fact, there isn't just a whole lot of that, because mostly it's stress and sleep deprivation and worries and doubts and trying to figure out just how in the heck to keep a tiny human being alive, all the while while trying to remain a more-or-less functioning adult in all other areas of your life. Don't get me wrong, the precious moments are there, but they are embedded between a royal sh*t ton of hard freaking work.

  • Does this make me a selfish son?

  • Do you think parents who let their kids play outside at like 8 pm when they have school the next day are irresponsible?

I live in an apartment complex where there are lots of kids. It's Sunday evening 7:34 pm as I type this and there's still kids outside playing. I don't have kids but I think that's bad parenting. They should be getting ready for bed.

We basically have no money left. The father of the child is a deadbeat and won't be paying child support. I think it would be a good idea for her to drop out of high school for now and go back when her child is old enough to be in school. We also don't qualify for welfare because we are considered to be a 'middle class' family.

  • If laws also apply to little children (below the age of 10 or 14), could this be the reason why babysitters or nannies were hired?

If little children (especially toddlers or preteens) were to dress as superheroes to fight crime out of boredom (like for example) & their parents can get arrested for whatever crimes their children has committed, could this be the reason why babysitters or nannies were hired when parents were away?

I've heard people say that those of us who choose to opt out of parenthood are "children" ourselves. We're "perpetually adolescents." That we're not fully adults if we don't bring children into our lives. How is this exactly? We still have to work. We still have to pay our bills, pay taxes etc. With or without kids we still have adult responsibilities. The only difference is we have more control over certain aspects of our lives that those with children may not have. It's a lifestyle choice. It's not a threshold you absolutely MUST cross in order to be an adult. In my opinion being a true adult is defined by how you treat others, that you hold yourself accountable, that you are honest and trustworthy, faithful, reliable, responsible, etc. None of that has anything to do with having kids or not. How is this even a thing? I am very curious because I've heard/read it quite a bit lately.
