• Will an unfiltered fish bowl be fine to keep a fish in temporarily?

I have a sick fishy that needs treatment and I know what I need to do, I just need to isolate him. I don't have the room to set up a spare tank right now. Would it be okay to put him in a bowl without a filter if only for a little bit? He is a tropical fish so if needed I will use a heater. There just isn't... show more

  • One of my shrimp died. Should i leave him?

Best answer: Any dead organic matters in the fish tank will rot and pollute the water with ammonia. Ammonia is toxic to the other aquatic animals in your fish tank. Assume you already have a well-established filtration doing the aquarium nitrogen cycle. The additional dead animals in the tank will cause ammonia spike which might kill other shrimp and fish.

I used to have a male molly but he died a couple days ago. Will a female Berta be fine with my fish? I don’t think my female molly is pregant as my male never seemed interested in her. He stayed on the other side of the tank of the other fish. My two fish are calm and easy going. They have been doing well so would this be a good arrangement?

I have a 150 watt jager aquarium heater and it’s going to run 24 hours a day (excluding the times when it shuts off on its own when it reaches the desired temperature). How much increase will I be expecting upon my next electricity bill? -Note: I also live in an apartment complex (California)

My boss bought us a 1 gal bowl for our workstation. He bought a Ryukin and I stated to him the bowl is too small for its habitat. He brought it home and is letting me pick what should live in the bowl. I am leaning towards a betta. I live in southern California so during the day the temperature is in the 70's water-wise but at night it can get around the 60's. I know ideally, Bettas need to live in 76-80 degree temps, he/she will be subject to below 76 (around 65) degrees for about 8 hours until it gets warmer in the morning. Will a betta be ok at night like that? He (my boss) also forbids any heaters or filters (anything electrical hanging from the bowl, don't ask why... he is how he is, I can't argue with the fact a fish would need it to him) Is this fish choice OK under those conditions, or should I look for something else? (doesn't have to necessarily be a fish, just something aquatic) Thanks.

Hi! I have had my fish tank about a week, I have had my fish in the tank for a few days, The fish is a very young Black Moore, the tank is 19l (Yes, I will upgrade the tank to about 90l when the time comes!) But in the short time the fish has been in there, the tank has grown cloudy (it was quite cloudy before infact), I've heard im not supposed to clean the tank for two weeks after putting the fish in, and its good for it to have some 'dirt' to boost its immune system but its not very nice to look at! I would love to see my fish properly and not through cloudy water! What do I do? please help!

They re about three inches long each, and live in a 20 gallon tank with many plants and some driftwood. The substrate is gravel, and I do have a very strong filter. For about a week, if not two, my lionhead has been gasping for air a lot, so much that he floats at the surface when I come home! Fortunately, he doesn t flip over, but he does struggle to swim. I got my parameters checked: nitrite 0, ammonia 0, nitrate 0, and phosphate 0. However, my pH is 7.8, which I ve been told is high. To solve my problem, I got an airstone, but will this really help? My fish still seems to be gasping for air! What should I do?
