So after you spend the $1,500 or more to get what you need, you install everything, connect it all up, and tell Windows to spread the desktop over the 4 monitors.

Im going to use my laptop as a sort of hub and then just use the external monitors to work. Will using the HDMI splitter allow me the use of 2 external monitors at the same time? Also when I was looking on amazon, some of the splitters would say only 1 output would have to be on at one time, Im assuming this would work since its just the laptop as the output, but any other advice would be appreciated.

Best answer: Your symptoms are all over the place.

With the computer turned off, try to turn on the monitor and activate the on-screen control panel. If this lights up and you can adjust brightness, contrast, or a few other common things - like a display diagnostic pattern, then the screen is OK.

Next, verify that you have a connection between the computer and the display. Perhaps remove and reconnect the display cable at both ends, since an "unseated" cable can cause havoc. Power up the machine and LISTEN. You should be able to hear the disk spin up and the fans should also spin up. If the machine is dead silent then it might be that you have lost a power supply. For novices at computer repair, that is a "bring it to a shop" situation.

If the fans spin up but the disk seems to be silent, your disk died. For an XP, not uncommon considering that is 15+ years old. I'm waiting for mine to bite the big one myself. Wifey's XP died six months ago or more.
