I suggest you try borrowing somebody's Mac computer to test it out first. I hate Mac OS, had to use Office on one for several semesters and the Mac version of Office was a huge pain to use.

Personally I like how much more cheaply I can repair Windows laptops. I also like the settings that Windows has so I can customize things to how I like them. Mac OS is locked down and rather than adapting the OS to how you like it, you've got to largely adapt to Mac OS.

    EDIT:
But I will add, I do find myself googling how to fix something about once a month on Windows, while only doing that maybe twice a year on Mac OS, which is something my wife likes about Mac OS. Though those few times I am googling problems for Mac OS the only solutions you find in forums is "wait for Apple to fix it."

  • How Far Away Should I Keep Magnets from My Electronics?

I have this notebook with a magnetic closure that contains the names of all my OCs, which I'm always adding to. But I keep my phone, tablet and laptop close by most of the time. Is it considered paranoid if I'm worried about getting my book too close to any of those?

  • Acer Laptop won't load windows.?

Best answer: Sounds like the hard drive may have dies and this is why it will not boot.
From what I can tell you have power as you get the option to press F10 but if after that there is no operating system then the HD has died.

It happens more often than you think with laptops, the plug gets loose and wobbly over time. Before i bought a replacement for mine I actually had it duct taped to the laptop because i cant have it going off with unsaved work

Reinstall the DVD-watching software should put back in the proper decoder software, why Film Industry saw it fit to charge this I have no idea, if I hold a DVD disc and see it, I obviously rented or buy the film and license that it should have, so paying for decoder seems just wrong.

Windows 10 don't come with it so to lighten the license fee, that means you always need to install the DVD-watching software, be that PowerDVD, Nero Suite, or whatever.

But like most kids & teens I wanted lots of what other people my age at the time had & usually I never got it as I complained most of the time & had no access to money until I had a job. Chances are unfortunately you won’t be getting this laptop or whatever any time soon because of that alone. If your lucky then maybe by the time you turn 15 (16 in some areas/or in some cases) then ask again & by then much better hardware will be available then anyway. It’s the pits I know but it’s a time in our lives we all had to & in your case have to deal with.

I’m not sure if kids even get allowances anymore or if that’s a thing of the past but just the same you could try to work that in if you are nowhere even close to age 15 yet. When you get to 15 though in some areas even McDonald’s might hire you.

My advice for now is basically “hang in there”.

Mobile devices (Laptops) have Solid State components, that is everything is soldered together to prevent elements coming loose during travel.

You would have to unsolder the bits and pieces. A worthless task since the Motherboard and the CPU is "Matched" for best performance.
You would need to replace the Motherboard with a compatible CPU for optimum performance or you would Bottleneck your processing of data.

Generally in a Laptop only the RAM and Hard drive can be easily swapped out..

The expense and labour involved would make the costs prohibitive, better to buy a new machine.

I do not have a separate screen or desktop monitor. I would like to avoid removing the hard drive from the old laptop. I'm hoping I can run some sort of cable between the old and new laptop, run my old laptop from my new laptop, and begin transferring the files to an external hard drive or similar. Is this realistic? What kind of cable would I need? I'm not very familiar with tech terminology, so please use words a tech-illiterate caveman can understand :) Best wishes and thank you!

  • Hi there. Is it possible to change lenovo thinkpad x230i i3 motherboard with x230 i5 processor motherboard?

Best answer: Laptop motherboards are going to be different for each model. If they're exactly the same shape, then it might work, but it would be a ton of work to get it done.

Usually a laptop motherboard is pretty expensive, I bet it'd be cheaper to just buy a new laptop if you need an upgrade.

As far as getting the HDD out, you can look up your model online, but usually there is a little panel on the bottom (sometimes with a symbol that looks like stacked circles/discs), unscrew that cover, disconnect the cable, unscrew the caddy holding the drive.
