  • If windows 10 is bad, what am i supposed to do when it comes time to upgrade?

Best answer: Windows 10 is, by and large fine and better than windows 7. I have been using windows 10 since it was released and have had no problems whatsoever. A few people have had problems with updates but these are usually easily resolved and rarely cause significant damage. I have a desktop and 2 laptops running windows 10... show more

to start off with, im a comupter idiot. I know next to nothing about computers and if someone even mentions the word "motherboard" i get a migraine. I may be 19, but i might as well be a grandpa with how awful at computers i am. I know that it's a hard disk partition and that it's empty space for me to put stuff in. E has most of my storage space on it (C has 223 GB, E has 931 GB) and my games (all through Steam and Origin, if that matters) are hoarding almost all of my C drive space. If i put the data files in E, will the games still be able to find+use them? if not, is there something i need to do to be able to do this? Im sure i could probably figure it out myself, but i have really severe anxiety about messing up/breaking my computer (though logically i know that moving a dang file's not gonna actually break anything) and i'd rather avoid panic attacks if at all possible. Thanks in advance!

  • What computers will we have in twenty years time or even thirty?

Best answer: Technology has a weird way of accelerating. There is a slim possibility engineers will have figured out quantum computing and holographic memory. If so, computing will get weird really fast. By that I mean, too fast for the user's learning curve.

When transferring files from the Seagate to the WD, a file would eventually give me THIS (Picture below) and then give up copying the rest of the files https://i.imgur.com/EJhUA7f.png I have a lot of files on this broken HD and I m scared I m gonna never be able to transfer them. Instead they ll just sit there and I ll never be able to open them again. Videos lag like hell and some documents don t even open. Is there a way to still transfer these files even though this is happening?

  • How can I get the files off this CD?

Best answer: It's damaged, so the disc is partially unreadable.

Some of the files may be still be salvageable but not all of them.

The reason you can "see" the files is because the part of the CD where the file directory is stored is still intact.

Best answer: Until Windows 10 came out, there were the options to decide if, how and when updates were installed. In those halcyon days, Windows had a feature update life of five years and a security update life of 10 years.

With Windows 10, Microsoft have not just moved the goal posts, they have completely demolished them and replaced them with very cheap replicas. Now Windows 10 versions have a feature and security update life of up to around 18 months. Effectively, Microsoft release a new version of Windows - the latest is 1803 - every six months or so. They are all called Windows 10, which I guess is the maximum number of months they expect any particular version to be used for.

To get around the appalling reduction in support life, each new version is free to existing Windows 10 users, and they try and force all Windows 10 systems to go through the pain and confusion of a version update every six months or so.

The Windows 10 versions so far have been 1507, 1511, 1607, 1703, 1709 and 1803. The next one due out in the fall is expected to be 1809.

Whereas the monthly major update cycle can normally complete an update in well under 30 minutes, the version upgrades can take much longer. My worst experience so far was an upgrade from 1709 to 1803, which failed six times at around an hour a time plus a 3 GB download (good job my ISP is uncapped). After that, it took a further four attempts with manual intervention, each one being more destructive than the previous one, before 1803 was installed.

That final attempt involved completely reinstalling the original Windows 10 system (1607) that came on the PC and which I had fortunately backed up as a disk image; then applying the 1803 upgrade, reinstalling all my Apps, getting rid of all the Microsoft bloatware, then a couple of hours going through all the settings putting them back the way I wanted them. Total computer down time was over 24 hours and it would have cost me over 20 GB on a metered network.

I prefer my computers to work consistently for several years without any major changes or trauma. I don't like having to do a major sort out every six months.

  • Would I be laughed at if I use a floppy disk to save stuff slot of laptops and computer still have floppy disk drive?

Best answer: If you can save data from a laptop to a 'floppy' I suspect you would need 100s if not 1000s of them to save your data because floppies will be extremely limited with the amount of space they have.

I just bought a cheap HP Pavilion Desktop. It came installed with Windows 10. I bought it because next semester I’ll behin working on my cloud and administration degree and I want to delete windows 10 and install Windows Server 2012 so I could get comfortable with it before taken my MCSA courses. So I went to DISKPART and cleaned the partition with Windows 10. I feel like I should have formatted the hdd afterwards but didn’t. So I have a Server 2012 dvd, which I want to install but now whenever I restart the computer I get a non-system disk or disk error message. I downloaded window adk on my main computer thinking I could load it to a thumb drive so I could at least boot to a cmd and maybe formatting the hdd would solve my problem, but I still keep getting the same message. Any advice?
