• Need some help changing my OS. Any advice?

Hello, I recently acquired an HP model Windows 7 tower computer, but before I had started using it, the previous owner installed Linux Mint 18.3, this is not really the operating system I wanted to be using. So if anyone knows how I can restore it to Windows 7, or at least XP or Vista, I'd love to know.

More seriously: For general office PCs, the government does use more modern versions of Windows. There are certain embedded applications that are more difficult to migrate: for those, there's a special licensing program to keep XP up-to-date with security fixes.

A lot of bank ATMs are the same, by the way: still running XP, but getting security fixes by special contract.

In Word 2003 this is tedious in the extreme as I can't set a default font color without changing the color of the entire document. All I want to do is set red as the temporary font until I revert to the original black. Instead I have to go up to the corner and select red for every single letter or word I want to change before relocating the cursor to another part of the text. This is very tedious.

One of the big differences is 10 has tiles as well as the start menu. 10 also has a very good I think security set and you don't need to install a 3rd party Virus program.

As for Windows 7 it will not stop working. They will just stop issuing updates for it. I still use XP on a lot of sites. And if you are careful and keep your Virus programs updated Windows 7 will work for a long time.

Those are the ones currently running, it coulld be listed in background processes but there will be many runnjing under that catgory but there could be one hidden in the list.

This will let you download an ISO of the install disk. From here you can either burn that image to a DVD or create a bootable flash drive with a program like Rufus: https://rufus.ie/ With Rufus, you select the ISO image and your flash drive and it will copy the necessary files over to the flash drive.

Once that is all done, you boot your laptop off of the install media and go through the Windows setup process. Once it is fully installed, you can download the appropriate drivers for that specific laptop from HP. Fully update Windows and you should be good to go.
