• Causes for lawn mower not starting?

The lawn mower: - has gas leaking - new fuel was just put into it - prior to putting new fuel into it, it sat for three years (three winters) with its tank completely empty - does not start when string is pulled - has only been used once I am unsure if the gas leaks regardless of whether or not I'm hoping to... show more

Thanks.

  • What's eating my Sunflower Seedlings?

    What's eating my Sunflower Seedlings?

Best answer: It looks like they are chewed by slugs, to stop them set a beer trap, slugs love beer and will leave the sunflower seedlings alone, put a couple inches of beer in a shallow pan/dish and set on the ground, they will drink, get drunk and drown.

Best answer: Because clover starts replacing the grass and since it is a short-lived perennial, in only a couple years, you end up with giant bald spots in your lawn where the clover that's a couple years old dies. The only way to avoid that with a clover lawn is to actually go through the expense and bother of seeding clover every year. Also, if you use your lawn for kids to play on or anything like that, then you start having issues of bald spots even sooner because clover isn't nearly as durable as grass when trafficked on--never mind how much clover stains clothing.

As for dandelions, they are the flower of crab grass. Once the dandelion is gone, what grows is a very wide, flat, ugly, broad leaf, prickly plant that kills all the grass around it and hurts your bare foot if you step on it. Also, when dandelions turn into white heads, or what is often called rag weed, that cottony pollen you get blowing in the wind many people are highly allergic to. So if you have allergies, the last thing you want is a lawn full of dandelions.

  • Why people who have these perfect Fescue lawns spend so much money for that weed free, uniform look?

Best answer: ANY lawn that is uniform and weed-free takes chemicals, many times a year. No matter what KIND of grass it is. And whether you have to water depends on the climate. I have a fescue lawn, and I NEVER, EVER water it. And it's fine. I'm also maybe a little further north than you. And for me, anything low... show more

And whether you have to water depends on the climate. I have a fescue lawn, and I NEVER, EVER water it. And it's fine. I'm also maybe a little further north than you.

And for me, anything low and green is a lawn (like it used to be. "Grass-only" lawns are only a recent thing, since chemical companies stumbled on the stuff that kills broadleaf plants but not grass, they've sold us the "grass-only" concept HARD, because they make tons of money on it). I have a few dandelions and violets in with the grass, and my daughter thinks it's beautiful in the spring when they first flower.
