  • Were people really allowed to smoke and drink alcohol at work a couple of decades ago?

Best answer: Yes. In California smoking at work was just starting to get phased out in the 80s. You want to freak out? In the 80s there were smoking and non smoking sections on airplanes. Like it mattered. the smoke went everywhere. Restaurants were, I think, the first places that started phasing out smoking. And bars were the last. I remember it was something like '95 when the town I lived in went "smoke free". And that was just inside public places. Up until then people still smoked in the coffee shops and book stores. And this is California. I bet there were places that didn't go smoke free till the turn of the century. One of my favorite jokes in the 90s was that the big difference between a Junior College and a High School is that a Junior College had ashtrays.

Drinking at work was sort of dependent on how high on the totem pole you were. But lots of people went out to lunch and had a drink. Some businesses made an effort to curtal it. Some cities didn't allow bars to be too close to factories.

With drinking and smoking it was sort of crazy how permissive our society used to be. Now we have zoning laws that don't allow bars and liquor stores too close to some places. and the no smoking zone includes the area outside near the door. And there are laws that restrict the advertising of tobacco and alcohol. You ever see the Flinstone commercial for Winstons?

In the 60s, my dad was the boss, and he had a bar and an ashtray in his office.

I've watched a few episodes of Mad Men. And I lived thru those yeas. Yes that is exactly what it used to be like. Although my mom never let me play with dry cleaning bags, I did get to ride on the rear deck of her car. On the freeway. At 70 miles an hour. Of course seat belts weren't installed in cars back then so it probably didn't matter.

Its amazing that so many of us baby boomers made it out of the 60s.

  • Can you tell if vomit was alcohol induced?

Best answer: Well you're not gonna smell it. Other people do though. When I'm extremely hung over my boss tells me I smell like beer. Must be in my sweat because I don't even puke. But I don't smell it. Even when I shower and wear cologne and sh*t he can smell beer lol. So either he has a really strong nose, or... show more

So either he has a really strong nose, or people can smell the liquor in your sweat when your hungover, especially in your puke. I wouldn't admit it though. Just play it cool, pretend you got a stomach bug. And if they notice, confess, if they don't, just go with it.

You see a two litre bottle of Cola (or other drink) on a table, would it be more beneficial to empty the bottle and re-fil with water or would it make so little difference to hydration that you wouldn't waste the time? Lets assume that you wouldn't die if you refilled but you didn't know that to be fact.
