With your engine off, you turn the ignition switch to on, but you do not start the vehicle. Then you put the automatic transmission in reverse, to make the back up (reversing) lights illuminate. You also engage your parking brake.

If you are on truly level ground, your vehicle won't roll or move.

You will put a load on your battery. If it's only a few minutes, the battery won't mind.

The transmission won't mind being in reverse with the engine off.

  • If I am in the driver seat of the vehicle and am not pumping gas to a vehicle, does it matter if I exit and re-enter the vehicle?

Best answer: Opening or closing the door has no impact on the vehicle at all... If the car is RUNNING while gas is being pumped, the vehicle can burst into flames or even explode due to static, but if the car is OFF, then starting a static fire by opening a door is impossible.

So I recently got a ticket in the mail for passing a school bus. I looked at the video footage they obtained, and I did indeed pass the bus when the stop sign extended out. But, while I was driving I saw the amber lights and thought I'd have more time to proceed, but before I could pass the bus, the red lights came on and it was too late. I wasn't speeding, and I know for sure there were not any children exiting the bus. I just panicked and kept going, and didn't want to suddenly stop infront of the person behind me in fear of getting rear ended. I suffer from really bad anxiety and can sometimes act impulsively because of it, and I think in this case I thought it'd be better to get out of the way than to suddenly stop. I have a clean record, but the only defense I have to this is that I thought I had more time to pass the bus. Actually, the car behind me also continued going even after the stop sign was out (not that that's my business but I'm assuming he also got a ticket) I just don't know what to do. I really can't afford to pay the fine, and I just don't want to sound like I'm making up excuses, it really was just a mistake. :( I'm almost 19, and I really have no experience with this kind of thing and I don't know what my options are.

You can just practice driving with a licensed driver with the permit until you're comfortable with your driving abilities and just take your road test to get your license. However, I believe still taking Driver's training can be very helpful. What do you guys think?

Best answer: Sure, if there is one available. Check your insurance coverage via your own car policy and any credit cards and confirm what needs to be purchased for coverage. Many policies and benefits will exclude the car type. They should have a weekly rate, but when you find out the cost may reduce the time you choose to hold the car. Your age is a factor in renting, as is local rentals which may be more difficult or cheaper. Do you realize that in checking, a Range Rover Sport Rental looks like $300 to $400 a day, where a Mercedes SUV is under $100 a day. You will have quite a time negotiating unless you want to spend over $10,000 on a rental because you cannot decide in less than 30 minutes.

Good luck in this venture. Maybe you will get lucky.
