My guinea pig is currently going on 7 years of age, he's been in our family for his entire life. His cagemate died a very long time ago, but we have strived to keep him happy even by himself ever since. He never seemed lonely because i was always there to care for him, hold him, and keep him happy and entertained. Lately, he has been showing signs of old age. We're assuming that the joints in his back legs began hurting because he has not been using them. He has been only sitting in the same position for weeks, with both of his back legs on the side of him. He only uses his front legs to drag himself around his cage, and it's sad to watch. We can tell that he is starting to drink less and less, so to make sure he is hydrated we make sure to feed him more than enough water-rich foods such as lettuce or cucumbers. He hasn't been eating as much as before, and he is starting to shed. He is showing similar signs of old age as our cat who was put down a few years ago due to old age, (age 24) which made her suffer and eventually the vet said we needed to put her down. It is difficult to tell if the same thing is happening to my guinea pig. Someone please give advice?

  • Do you think this mouse has a chance of living?

Best answer: The kindest thing to do would be to let it die. Sorry, but that's life and wild mice spread disease and are nothing but pests. And since it's all covered with trap and soap, it's more than likely not going to get eaten by anything, unless the animal is desperate. This is coming from a rodent lover. I... show more

This is coming from a rodent lover. I love mice, rats, etc., but cannot for the life of me even think about saving wild mice and rats. They are mean, nasty, and will bite you without hesitation. They destroy food and spread disease.

  • How do people have pet hamsters in Canada? Please read?

For an iguana I know you just put a 60w light bulb in his cage. But iguanas like bright sunlight (one reason they don't choose to live in Canada, despite the great health care and generally superior culture). The light might bother a hamster. But I'm sure other hamster owners have solutions. Why not call a pet store and ask what they recommend?

  • Only store that sells hamsters around me is petsmart?

Best answer: Have you looked at animal shelters in your area? Shelters often take rodents if their owners cannot take care of them anymore, and will do an excellent job taking care of them.

    Best of luck!

  • Is my hamster pregnant? I don’t even know if it’s a girl or boy, it is pretty big on its butt and is nesting. Even gender is appreciated.?

Best answer: Nesting is normal hamster behavior, they all do it. You can find photos online to explain how to sex a hamster- it's easy. If it is a male no worries, If it is a female and you have had it 3 weeks or more, you are safe.

  • How do you properly discipline a chinchilla?

My chinchilla, Chica, keeps biting my brother, but only nibbles me when I have a treat. She bites him when he s petting her, but she lets me do it all I want (with her own boundaries). He yelled at her last time she did it and she got super scared. How do I discipline her without scaring her?

Guinea pigs must be in pairs and they need a much larger cage. Measure out an area in your room that is 30" x 60." That is the size cage you'll need for the pair of piggies.

The hamster cage should be around around 450 square inches (the piggie one is 1800 square inches!). A large plastic tub will work for a Syrian hamster (google images of "hamster bin cage" for examples). Can't use plastic tub for piggies -- they won't be large enough and piggies need more air circulation.

Hamster will probably be your best bet.

A few days later the other one died too. Then I bought a bird for them I share and a month later he died as well. We have a dog but she's fine and has had all of her shots. Ive searched for an answer But I can't find a common denominator. Does anyone know why this could be happening? The pets were well fed, in a cool environment and always had water. I just don't understand what happened.
