• Are my guinea pigs eating too much hay?

Pellets are another common cause of overweight guinea pigs. Adults only need 1/8 cup a day. They should be timothy based pellets.
Fruits and sugary veggies should be limited. You can always cut them out completely to help with weight loss.
Feed a cup of veggies, per pig, daily.

Proper diet is important but cage size also effects a guinea pigs weight. The bigger the better. I had an overweight piggy and I upgraded her cage a few times. Each time I made it bigger, she lost a bit of weight with no other changes. She eventually was in a 60 square foot cage (with her 3 buddies) and she got down to a healthy weight at that time and maintained it. 2 of my other pigs were also a tad bit overweight and they slimmed down too. My healthy weight pig remained at a healthy weight. You don't have to go crazy like I did but if you can make the cage bigger you should do that.

I think she was sick because I got her from the pet store, but on the first day she was completely fine. She was eating, drinking, and was pretty energetic. On the second day in the morning she was sort of sluggish. I took her out to play for a bit and let her run around. Her movement was slow and she stopped in place many times and just sat there. I let her climb on me when she fell off my shoulder (I was sitting down on the floor). She got up and seemed fine, but she was doing sort of a strange hopping motion while dragging herself across the floor when she suddenly stopped moving and died. She was about 3 months old according to the pet store and was making weird noises when I took her out the cage. Did she die from the fall? Was she sick? Could her origins from the pet store have to do with her quick death? Did I do something wrong? Please tell me, I don t want to risk something like this again if I get another rat.

Just wanted to found out as I'm sort of curious and I am sort working on something that involves the sounds they make ( I'm not working with the animals, it more like writing down notes on something I want to learn as I just want to learn something that peaked my interest )

I hve 2 pet rats, a male and female separated. Their cage mates passed a bit ago. I was given a new rat from a weird situation. This rat has not allowed us to touch him he does not like it when you touch or do anything to his cage. He has never liked people touching him and the only way to get him out to do anything to said cage, is to wear thick gloves. He accepts the gloves better than hands. I tried to give him a hammock as a peace offering, which he loves but he still isnt acting like I am able to handle him. New rat = Connor Other rat = Gimp I did try to introduce Connor and Gimp in the bathtub a few weeks ago and the result was a scuffle and Gimp had a punctured back. This isn't Gimps first time meeting new rats, he used to live with 4 other ones. Its been maybe 3 weeks, and I haven't had much progress with Connor other than he will willingly take food from me. Hes being picky with his food as well. I have tried to pet him, he curls up and gets into a position where he looks like he will snap if you proceed. I am also frustrated with this, because I am not sure what else to do to try another introduction, so he can move into the big cage. Hes not in a big cage at all, it was supposed to be temporary but I need him to quit being aggressive so we can move forward. We do have rodent vets in the area but none will perform a neuter, and only 1 is reliable. The other caused my guinea pigs death. I have called around more than once for this.

Google "Various Guinea pigs pictures" They are many colors and hair lengths. You would see them on display at State Farm exhibitions which happen every fall.

Best answer: No, they generally travel alone. But they live in burrows in groups. If you find one in your house, there's probably others..sometimes it's just one, but if you see a rat over and over again over the course of days, it lives there which means there's probably othersn
