  • Why is the Guardian's website in beta?

    (The erstwhile Manchester Guardian)

Last night it started appearing in beta. I figured there must have been some website maintenance occurring, but this morning I see that's it still appears in the beta version.

I went on the Guardian's Twitter but there's no mention of this.

  • How far out do Premiership match tickets go on sale to the general public?

I've never been to England before but I'll be in London during Christmastime. I was hoping to catch Arsenal v West Ham on Boxing Day if I able to score some tickets. If I can't get into the Emirates the back-up plan for that day is Fulham v Southampton or QPR v West Brom.

How early are match tickets available to the general public? Is it usually a few months prior and what's the procedure for non-members to acquire tickets from the club's website?

    Thank you.

  • Does a soundtrack for Football's Fight Club exist?

Does a "soundtrack" for Football's Fight Club exist? And, if so, where can I download it?

I am trying to find the song listings for the Channel 4 documentary Football's Fight Club. I recognize about 75% of the songs (The Jam, New Order, etc), but I don't know a few of them. I'd love to put a compilation of those songs together. I'm in the U.S. and watched the documentary on YouTube since we can't get Channel 4 over here.

    Thanks for your help.

  • Is there a Pokemon Centre in London?

Visiting England for the first time in December. Young son is a Pokemon fanatic, to put it lightly. I was hoping there is a Pokemon Centre or Nintendo World Store in London.

  • What is there to do in Liverpool on Boxing Day?

Again, please forgive me for my ignorance, but I've never been to the UK and recently I won round-trip airfare from British Airways. The problem is my ticket can only be booked in 2012 and this year I don't have much time to a do a week long trip until late December.

Can you please suggest what types of things I can do as a tourist in Liverpool on December 26th?

(I've visited a lot of websites online and oftentimes there is no mention about whether a particular service or tour is available on Boxing Day.)

(Is it true public transportation is shut down on Christmas and most things are closed? Surely London isn't a ghost town on December 25th?)

  • What does "Issue Date" mean when tracking the status of your Irish passport application?

I am following the progress of my passport application via the DFA's passport tracking. Does issue date refer to the projected date a passport will be issued if an application is successful?

    This is what shows today:

    Application Number Entered: xxxxxxxxxx

Status: Application No. xxxxxxxxxxx. Received on 28/10/2011 and has been registered.

    Issue Date: 03/11/2011

Website Last Updated: 29/10/2011 at 13:45

This is the first time I've applied for a passport, so I have no clue how long the process could take. And, I have a trip abroad later this year, so I am hoping the passport is completed and reaches me in time.

  • Where is an inexpensive photo shop or place to have Irish passport photos done in the U.S.?

I heard Walgreens, FedEx, and CVS won't necessarily able to produce the quality and specifications needed by the Irish passport office. I contacted some private photographers and local photo shops, but the fee they want for four photos seems a little high.

What about Sears Portrait Studios for Irish passport photos? Does anyone have any experience with them in the States? Any other ideas?

I don't want to overpay for photos I could take myself on a digital camera; however, I also don't want my passport photos rejected if I compromise quality just to save money.

  • Are non-EU national children allowed in the EU queue at Dublin Airport?

I am visiting Dublin in January. I will enter on my Irish passport, but my 8-year-old American son will have a U.S. passport. Will the gardai reprimand me if I bring my son with me in the EU queue?
