  • EASY calculus question, area of the graph. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE help!?!?

Okay, this is my first time doing calculus at school and need heaps of help with this problem.

    This is what it says:

The graph shows the function f (x)=x^2-4

Use it to calculate the shaded area.

The parabola cuts through the x axis at -2 and 2 and the are below the x axis is shaded. The turning point which cuts the y axis is -4.

The second shaded area is shaded outside of the parabola above the x axis, it is shaded from 2 on the x axis and 4.

Looks a bit like this )| but with the top half of it cut off, if you know what that means.

Anyway please help, show all working please :)

  • How do I measure the length of a helix?

Let's say I have a spring. What sort of formula could I use to figure out the total length of the helix. Assumably I have the height of the spring and its diameter.

Is there a formula I can use to find the total length of the wire that is used to make the spiral helix of the spring?

  • Dream interpretation! Really scary dream!!?

okay so it was night time and I was with my friend and she had a secret second home which we were going to stay the night at (her parents were away). Anyway we were driving around and there were heaps of buses driving round (with there interior lights on so I could see the bus drivers). We saw where a whole heap of buses were parked and went over to a big dumpster bin was and spilling out of it was dead babies (with a green tinge to there skin and had stitches everywhere) and there were baby body parts lying everywhere blood was pouring out of some of them (there blood was different colours as well). There were also needles and like surgical equipment around them. We left to go back to the house and as we were a bus went past us and there were three guys in the bus, one driving the bus, one sitting next to the bus driver and one standing in the middle of them pointing at us (this was weird because I could see there faces sooo clearly and usually I don't see faces clearly in dreams). We got home safely but then my friends parents came home (to the secret house) and we were just trying to hide form them. THE END it's pretty random but I don't know what any of this dream means. Please help, this was definately one of the clearest dreams I've had and haven't forgotten about. (Happened at the start of the year - Feb)

  • Random & Scary Dream interpretation?

I had a dream last night and it was about me and one of my close friends and we moved and we were living in this random as house. The house was over a bush and inside the house all the floor boards were missing (so you could see the bush under it) and there were only a couple of bits of wood on the floor. We were in the house and we were pulling ourselves across the pieces of wood (like our dragging our legs). In the bush there was this dead doll (which was once a human) and it was life size all I could see was its arm and hand and it had like silvery blue ribbon wrapped round it and was bleeding. What could this mean?

  • Write with positive exponents?

    2a^5.b^-3 all over 3c^-5.....

Just in case that doesn't make sense

2a to the power of 5 times b to the power of -3 all over 3 times c to the power of negative 4

I really have no idea with indices :S

  • How do I know if it's broken?

Last night I jumped my fence at home when I was taking the trash out. I have jumped it before but I usually lower myself down. Yesterday I jumped it full height. I landed on the left side of my left foot quite hard. I was still able to walk on it and jump the fence back again without too much discomfort. However two hours later I wasn't able to put even the smallest of weight on it without it hurting. If I moved the toe next to my pinky toe back it would hurt.

I woke up this morning, though, to not even being able to hobble without feeling the pain, I can now only move the toe next to my pinky toe ever so slightly slightly before it hurts. Could I have broken or fractured a bone?
