  • 501c3 non-profit tax question?

A registered 501c3 non profit(volunteer fire dept.) has a 'social hall' which is used for training and is rented to persons for wedding receptions, etc. Is the net revenue from this hall taxable? I was told it was taxable as it is an unrelated business even though all the monies are used to support the fire dept. The fire dept. feels it is just another type of fund raiser. Could you please cite the IRS source of your answer so I can look it up. Thank you for your help.

  • What kind of little bug bit me?

A few months ago, while sleeping in bed, I woke with a welt on the inside of my left forearm, right over the large vein. It happened again the next night at the same exact spot. I did a real good cleaning of the room and had no trouble until now. Now the critter got me in the same place over the vein leaving a welt the size of a nickel. I am familiar with spiders, fleas and tick bites as I live near the woods in Pennsylvania. Also I get real bad reaction from some stinging insects.

I am curious as to what is biting me, maybe bedbugs? And how does the little vampire hit the same spot each time like there is an X marking it like the bullseye of a target?

Thanks for listening and any help you can give me!

  • saw a meteor through binoculars?

Couple weeks ago I was out looking at stars with binoculars. I was looking ENE and suddenly a bright streak traveling south to north flashed through my field of vision. It was bright, beautiful and so surprising I flinched and lost it. It had a beautiful bright yellow trail. I think I was lucky to be looking in the right place at the right time. I will always remember it, like the first time I saw Saturns rings.. Have others seen a meteor through binoculars or telescopes as it occurred ? Please tell your experience.

  • Population projection help please?

10,000 years ago world population is estimated at 5 million.

    By 1650- 500 million.

    By 1800- 1 billion.

    By 1950- 2 billion.

    By 1987- 4 billion.

    present about 6 billion.

    By 2015 over 7.3 billion.

    By 2050 about 10 billion.

Can you project for 2060,2070, etc.? When will population reach 20 billion?

Also half the population of developing countries, that have the highest birth rates, is just reaching puberty.

I am not playing a blame game. Just wondering what is in store from a population standpoint. It is believed that over 1 billion are in deep poverty now. My information is from "The Population Explosion" by Ehrlich and Ehrlich and the latest UN International Conference on Population and Development.

Thanks in advance to you math wizards :)

  • Anyone familiar with diabetes please answer?

Earlier today I splurged shopping and bought ice cream. I rarely eat it. I had a small bowel of it about 2 PM. Sat on the couch to watch the news. Next thing I knew it was 7 PM and I had a very hard time getting up. I was not sleepy at 2 PM. I am 60, slightly overweight, and there is family history of diabetes though my yearly blood work never shows over 102 on sugar. I am thinking I have a sugar problem but am asking for others opinions. Thank you for your time.

  • Hydraulics engineers and oil spill?

Can anyone give a better estimate of the oil spill rate? The BP figure of 210,000 gal a day seems too low considering the size of the pipe and estimated flow rate of the oil. Please use your own estimates, not BP or the Govt.

Just trying to get an honest estimate of the spill. Thank You!

  • 1999 Chev Cavalier quits running?

engine shuts down with no warning when climb a hill. No sputter or anything. 4 cyl. Had problem a month ago and found a bad connection where two plugs go into top of a plate the spark plug capacitor units attach to. Changed plate and ran like heck for a month. If I can get thru the winter with it until construction jobs start back is all I need. Seems to be getting gas and fuel pump runs but I don't have a way to check pressure. Any and all help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • The Himalaya Mts. in World War II were a major roadblock?

to the Allies flying supplies from India to China. Many air crews were lost over 'The Hump'. With warming, glaciers and ice melting, do you think it would be possible to recover any of these lost men and bring them home? The logistics would be tough. If you could locate aircraft (say by high definition satellite imagery) do you think it would be possible?

  • where did all the water on Earth come from?

I have heard the Earth is 4.5 B.years old. Also there is rock in Canada dated to 4.2 B years. With this rock is layered rock that could only be formed by deep ocean pressures implying oceans were here at 4.2 B years. The theory water came from objects such as asteroids or comets striking Earth would mean one heck of a lot of impacts as there is one heck of a lot of water. What is your thoughts and can you direct me to good web sites for more information. Thanks !

  • Why all the inner city black on black crime?

I am a suburban raised white guy. The only blacks I know are from work and they are just as hard working and want the same things for their families as everyone else. Now the news is full of shootings, mostly in the inner cities, and it has to be stopped. News shows mostly black kids doing the crimes, and being crime victims.

Recently the mother of a murdered black kid, about 17 years old, was on TV and said he avoided the gangs and drugs and had received a college scholarship. She said the reason he was killed was he was going to get out of there and make a success of himself so they killed him.. He may have become a great physician or man of great influence for good and now he is gone. How many other moms have lost children and how many potential great persons are being killed we can never know.

All I know it is a society problem. By the time police are involved it is too late.

I hope there is an answer to this tragic waste.

  • Turtles Can I release them.....?

My grandson picked up two turtles about 5 years ago for pets. Now he has lost interest in them. I know the area they came from so I would not be releasing a harmful species. It is fall here now. When would be the best time of year to release them ? I just don't think it is right to keep them but would like to let them go at a good time to maximize their chance to survive. Thanks for your help.
