  • Recieved a 1099-C cancellation of debt in the mail...Any tax ppl out there?

So my husband and I settled a bank loan back in Jan. 2007. I have recieved nothing about this since then. Then all of a sudden today I got a 1099-C Cancellation of Debt in the mail. It says the date canceled was 12/31/09?? I have researched what this form even is so I found out that when you settle a debt the difference then becomes taxable income (Which I think is stupid), but why in the world would I be recieving this after 3 years?? I have the proof of it and everything of when it was settled so why in the world am I just now getting thhis and being told I must file taxes on it? Btw, the amount is only $1,700.00, would it even make a difference if I file on it or not? I will not be paying any one to do my taxes, I'm doing them myself so any help you can give would be great!

    Thanks!

  • Will the Pell grant pay for child care?

I'm 24 and have been a stay at home mom for over 5 yrs. I'm going to college for the first time and I just filed my FAFSA. I have 2 children, 5 and 3, and I will have to put them in daycare to attend school because my husband is in the Army and will be deployed before the semester starts. I read that if you make under $42,000 a yr that the pell grant will pay for your child care, is this true? Will they pay for all of it?

  • Why does my credit score keep dropping?

I have a credit card that gives me my updated Expieran score every month. For the past yr it has gone up every month between 1-12 points every month. All of a sudden in January is dropped 50 points. The only thing that had changed was that we got another credit card (we now only have 2 and we pay them off every month). And today I just got Feb. score and it dropped ANOTHER 30 points!!! What is going on?? We have barley $2,000 of debt(including our car that we've had for over 5 yrs), we pay everything on time. What is the deal. Could it be that some old closed accounts that were in good standing have fallen off my record?...it has been about 7 yrs for a lot of them. I'm just really confused! We have worked really hard for our scores and this is an almost 100 point drop in 2 months!! If it keeps going my score is gonna look BAD! Any ideas as to way this is happening?? I dont know my scores for Transunion or Equifax right now. I checked them in Jan. but not since Experian has been dropping.

  • Community College Vs. Online College?

So, I have been out of school for over 7 yrs and never attended college. I have been a stay at home mom since I was 19. I have just gotten my GED so that I can begin college. I got high enough scores on my GED to qualify for a 2 yr scholarship. I have also been looking into Online college, such as Kaplan and U of Phoenix, the reason being that I have 2 young children and my husband is in the military and will be deployed in a couple months for a year. So I wont have the flexability or the ability to attend a campus school. The community college does offer online classes which I could take while my husband is gone and once he returns I could begin on campus. My question is, will the online classes from a community college give my the flexability I will need for being alone for a year with a 5 and 3 yr old or would a strickly online based school be better for my situation?

  • Any Occupational Therapy Aide/Assitant out there?

I want to become a OTA, but I cant find a school near me to do it, I saw that Penn Foster online school offers OT Aide degree but I'm not sure about it. I know they don't make as much as assistant's and I'm nervous about getting a degree online. Does anyone have experience with this and how did you get your degree, how long did it take? Whats the average salary?

I'm a stay at home mom of 2 children and my husband will be deployed in a couple months so going to a campus right now isn't an option. Once he gets home it will be, but finding a school in a small town to get a degree in what I want is turning out to be harder then I thought.

Any help/info you have would be great, I'm lost!

  • Refinancing our Home?

So, we bought our house in Sept. of 07, about a year and 3 months ago. We used a VA home loan with a fixed rate of 6.25% I just got something in the mail offering to refinance our loan at fixed 5%. Because we used a VA loan we do not have to requalify, we are garuanteed that %. My question is, is this a good idea. I only ask because I dont know much of anything about these things and it makes me a bit nervous to go to a different mortgage company. Do they transfer everything for you, including your Home insurance? Any help and info you have would be great!!

  • Pregnant with and IUD?

OK, I have 2 children and after my son was born in 06 I had an IUD put in. I have had it checked yearly and everything has been fine. But I'm worried that i may be pregnant. I dont have a lot to go on right now. None of the normal pregnancy stuff that i had with my other 2, but just one wierd thing that has been happening daily. I'm small framed so with both my kids i always felt them move early, but with my 2nd when i was only 3 months along any time i would lay flat on my back you cound see an extremly noticable wave motion going across my stomach. My belly button would sink down and another side would slightly pop up. I wasnt even showing when this was happening, my Doc actually thought it was twins because of such early movement. And it is now happening again and i'm a bit freaked out! Its very noticable to see, i even took a vidoe just so i knew i wasnt crazy lol I took a test and it came up negative. I have no other symptoms, so am i crazy?

  • No period in a year?

Ok, so i had an IUD put in after i had my 2nd child a little over a year ago. For the first 3 months i had the normal off and on again spotting and then stopped having my period, which is very commen with the IUD. Well its been over a year with nothing, no spotting, absolutly nothing. Then today i had a pretty decent about of blood. Not spotting, but nothing really heavy eaither. It definatly seems like period blood (sorry if TMI) Has anyone had this happen while using an IUD. Going for such a long time with no hint what-so-ever of a peroid then out of nowhere have bleeding? Is this something i should call my doc about?

Please dont answear if you have no knowledge of IUD's

    Serious answears only

    Thanks!

  • What kind of Charges can i file?

So my email account has been broken into numerous times in the past couple weeks by a family member who changes my password to get access. I've changed everything and use a different account now but still monitor the old one. An email was written and sent to a few ppl on my contact list of course causing all kinds of drama. I just bought a house and at the time they got in i had a lot of personal info from my mortgage comp., realtor, and so on. If i'm right about the person who did it then they are very capable of taking the info and running! So i consulted Yahoo! and they told me to contacted my local police which i have now done and they are investigating it and taking it seriously, but they werent really sure what charges they could file, so the detective is going to contact the DA to find out for sure. I hav the IP address and all that info. but i'm wanting to know if anyone has any idea what kin of charges can be filed?? Thank You!

  • Can i get info on a person who broke into my email??

OK so someone, and i'm pretty sure i know who, broke into my email account and wrote and email which had "me" saying some mean things about someones child and it has caused a lot of problems with my family. This isnt the fist time something like this has happened with this person and i'm fed up with it, so i want to see if i can somehow get info from yahoo about an IP address or something that can tell where the email was sent from so i can basically prove my innocence lol And if what they did can actually have action taken i want to do that as well. So any help would be great!
