  • Seeking primary sports insurance for individual athletes, not students.?

My non-professional adult roller derby league has recently decided to require primary health insurance from our skaters. Some of our skaters cannot afford regular primary insurance through their jobs, state programs or out of pocket. I know that most universities are able to offer cheap limited primary insurance (that only covers students while they are participating in a given sport), but are there such policies available to the general public? How much would something like that cost for one year?

Most of the non-university sports insurance policies I've been able to find through google offer coverage for the league or organization, not for individuals.

    Any suggestions?

  • What's the best midwifery program for me?

I should start off by saying that I live in the U.S., where midwifery ceritifications and degrees are somewhat more complicated than in other countries.

My big nerdy dream is to be a midwife, working in international crisis situations and refugee camps. Right now I only have an unrelated bachelor's degree. I know that for my specific goals I should be a nurse midwife, and not go the direct entry route. But where should I get my training? Would it be worth it to study abroad? I speak passable french and would love to work with medecins sans frontiers someday. Or should I get my initial training closer to home, where I can get more support from my family? Would a foreign program position me better for my future goals? I suspect the scandinavian countries would be strongly respected internationally, but I just don't know where to begin my research on this.

    Thanks for your help!

  • What happens when pain killers expire?

I've got all these expired over the counter drugs lying around (naproxen, ibuprofin, aspirin, and some nasal decongestants like loratadine) and I'm wondering what happens after they expire. Do they just lose potency? Or do they somehow become more dangerous?

If they just use potency, I'd prefer to keep them since I usually only take half doses when I need something anyhow. Either way, though, I'd hate to throw them out- goodness knows we don't need any more chemicals getting into the water.

  • What movies do teenagers today like to watch?

I need some suggestions. I work at a teen clinic, and our waiting room television gets terrible reception, so we put on movies instead. The problem is that I have really outdated taste in movies, so the patients never want to watch anything I bring in. Do you have any suggestions?

We see kids as young as 12, so it can't be too graphic sexually or violently, and our receptionists frown on movies that change volume very suddenly (suspense thrillers, anything with gunfire or screaming etc.)

    Thanks for your help!

  • What fine wine will be perfect in 10 years?

I'm interested in buying a bottle of wine for a wedding gift, with the intention that it be opened on their tenth anniversary. The problem is that I know nothing about wine, while the groom is something of an amateur wine expert. Any suggestions? Can it even be predicted when a wine will open and close?

  • Is talking about race the same thing as being racist?

I am a student who studies race and how different societies construct it. I've posted a few questions about race on yahoo answers to this effect that have been removed. I'm trying to figure out how to address my questions in such a way that people will understand my intent is not to offend, but to find out how other people think about race. Is this possible to do on this site? Do you know of another forum where such discussions can be held? Thanks for your thoughts.

  • In Eddie Izzard's "Glorious," he mentions a "Mrs. Badcrumble"?

in the role of god's mum. There is uproarious laughter at this, so he adds an aside that "she's just my clarinet teacher..."

Is she in fact some kind of pop culture figure in the UK? I'm from the US and I've never heard of her. This was the one joke that I didn't really get.
