I have a 14-month-old daughter. My daughter likes to self feed with her fingers, and now she likes to practice with a spoon or a fork.
I’m a Chinese. In my culture, parents ALWAYS spoon feed their kids until they reach 6 or 7 years old. I don’t think kids get any benefit from it. I usually give my daughter 30 minutes for a meal, and 15 minutes for a snack. On the first 15 minutes of the meal time, I let her self feed, and then the last 15 minutes I spoon feed her. She usually takes few bites from me or totally refuses it. I try to give her different menu at each meal and snack. If she doesn’t like the food I offered, I don’t force her to eat, but she won’t get any substitute either.
My mother-in-law doesn’t agree with me. She said that her friend still spoon feeds their granddaughters (3 & 5 yrs old) because they are afraid if the kids don‘t get full. My daughter gets three meals and two snacks, which means I have to clean her high chair five times a day. That’s a pain, but I think it’s worth it. I would like to hear some suggestions about the feeding, thanks!!!!5 AnswersNewborn & Baby1 decade ago
1 decade ago
