Not much to tell. I'm a Christian who makes his living designing and building houses. I've been married for 30 years to a very patient woman. My kids are grown. I'm interested in just about everything, but passionate about religion/philosophy. I'm here to talk with thoughtful folks of all beliefs or none. Oh. And one more thing. I believe life is a gift. May yours be rich.

Not giving or receiving forgiveness from people you know, but the impossibility of being forgiven for wrongs committed unknowingly or indirectly. I have to admit that when I was an atheist this didn't much bother me. It's just the way the world is. But after I became a theist, then Christian I was surprised by how freeing the belief that I could be forgiven for those things felt.
Anyway, I was just wondering if this was something any of you had thought much about.

My 'gut' tells me that moral claims are truth claims. People certainly tend to act as if they are. Yet I cannot seem to figure out where they get the warrant for their beliefs. Are we reduced, for example, to believing theft is wrong based on faith?

You receive a letter informing you that an eccentric billionaire has included you in her will. You arrive at the lawyer's office and are given the following: Paint my house according to these instructions and you will receive $1,000,000.
--- paint the house black
--- paint the house white
Which color should the house be when you get done?

Is it fair of me to ask how you know that? How is dismissing such claims a priori consistent with willingness to go where the evidence leads you?35 AnswersReligion & Spirituality8 years ago
