• How do spiders know how to make webs?

Is there a genetic code that codes for web making, I don't mean the DNA sequences for the protein mix in the web filaments, but the actual patterns of construction. Or is this a learnt behaviour, if so is there evidence of baby spiders watching grown up spiders making webs?

  • Triassic coral and aragonite formation question?

I have read that ocean acidification is being caused by high concentrations of atmospheric CO2 and that this has an effect on coral aragonite formation. Yet during the Triassic periond when CO2 concentration were much higher than today the fossile record shows that the coral used aragonite calcification. Doesnt this imply that higher levels of... show more

  • Problem with Einstien summation notation...?

    I was doing well untill I encountered the following (all numbers next to letters are subscripts) B = A11x1^2 + A12x1x2 + A21x2x1 + A13x1x3 + A31x3x1 + A22x2^2 + A32x3x2 + A23x2x3 + A33x3^2 any explainations as to how to summerize this using Eistien notation would be greatfully accepted thanks

what if the assumption that energy is conserved is in fact wrong? i know it has been helpful in formulating modern physics but how do we know it is a fact? isnt it possible that energy is NOT conserved?
