• Can I save my chili from uncooked beans?

Last time I did this (I know, you don't have to say it) I cooked it and cooked it and the beans stayed crunchy forever. I haven't added any salt or tomatoes. Can I still save this chili?

I'm making this recipe: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ultim... This morning I realized I don't have any cilantro left over or any heavy cream, so I can't make the sauce that goes with it. I'm also out of pineapple juice. Is it possibly for me to reduce some of the marinade I set aside yesterday to use as a sauce? It's got chunks of ginger and garlic in it, and I think that maybe just trying to reduce the fully-mixed marinade to turn into some sort of gravy wouldn't really work too well. If not, does anyone have any suggestions for a simple sauce/gravy that would compliment the chicken?

I can't find any guides on making sauce-slathered chicken on an electric grill; all the guides are about proper coal temperature, moving the meat around, how to smoke, etc. Please help!

I don't like to come off as prickly or unable to take a joke, but really, what can you say when someone is pretending they can't hear you? I'd like to be able to turn the joke back at them or at least dismiss the joke in a relaxed and amiable manner. Has anyone else had this problem? It turns out I put TOO MUCH wine in it, and my family is having trouble downing it. Is there anything I can add, now, to tone down the flavour of the white wine?

Certainly it overpowers the taste of the prickly pears. At this point, I can't afford to make a new batch. I made marmalade to save money on presents this year. Is there something I can mix into the finished marmalade without completely ruining the texture? It's okay if it doesn't end up tasting like prickly pears... just as long as it comes out delicious and edible, my family doesn't care what flavor it is. Could I just buy a jar of some other, pre-made jelly, and mix it in? I realize that might sound like cheating, but all's fair in love and food, right?

Today is cyber monday, so the place I'm ordering it from is having a 20% off sale. That's VERY tempting, but how long can that fresh crab meat last in my fridge? I don't want to get pasteurized meat and I don't want to have to freeze it. I'm willing to make dinner BEFORE the 14th, I just want to know what my timeline is like. Also; live crabs are out of the question. Not only do I not have anywhere to keep them, but it's a surprise birthday dinner, and I'm pretty sure he'll get suspicious if he notices a tank of live blue crabs in the livingroom.

Note: I don't have ANY alcohol in the house, so wine isn't a good substitute. Here is the recipe: Ingredients - 2 Teaspoons Vegetable Oil 1 Pound Lean Beef Stew Meat 2 Tablespoons All Purpose Flour 1 Small Onion, chopped 2 Cups Fresh Mushrooms, sliced 6 Cloves Garlic, minced 1 Can Tomato Paste 2 Cups Beef Broth 1 Can or Bottle Irish Stout Beer, (12 fluid ounce) 4 Cups Carrot, sliced 2 Large Potatoes, peeled and diced 1 Tablespoon Cornstarch 1 Tablespoon Cold Water 1/4 Cup Fresh Parsley Preparation: 1. Heat oil in a Dutch oven or large pot over medium-high heat. 2. Coat beef cubes with flour, shaking off the excess. 3. Fry beef cubes until browned on all sides. 4. Remove from the pot. 5. Add the onion and mushrooms to the pot, and cook stirring constantly until onion is tender, about 3 minutes. 6. Return beef to the pot, and stir in tomato paste, beef broth, and beer. 7. Add potatoes and carrots, cover, and simmer over low heat for about 1 hour. 8. Mix together the cornstarch and cold water. 9. Stir into the stew, and simmer until thickened. 10. Sprinkle with parsley and serve.

I treated her for everything except what she had. Now she's miserable, and her tank mate is dead... her tail is ragged in ribbons, her skin coated in trails of white slime, her eyes completely covered in giant balls of cotton. She's blind, swimming in circles, running into the walls. She's either in tremendous pain, or unbearable discomfort. I have no faith in the all-purpose medicine I started using today... it specifies that it's most effective "at the first sign." Her tank mate died a few hours after I dosed the tank. I can't stand to see her suffering anymore. I don't think she's going to pull out of this- even if she does, she'll have a miserable quality of life; blind and alone. I need a humane way to put her out of her misery... I don't believe in flushing fish, or whacking them on the head. I would rather try the clove oil/vodka method... but I don't HAVE any clove oil or vodka. Is there any alternative substance to these two that you KNOW works?

I have 2 black moors, both are relatively new, and the tank is relatively new (fish have been here two weeks, tank was running without fish for two weeks prior). They are in a 15 gal (we are upgrading to a 70 gal next month, so please don't give me a hard time) with a filter, gravel substrate, and live plants. The temperature has been between 80-85 because we're having a bit of a heat wave here, but I was told they would be fine at that temp for a while. when I first brought them home I noticed they had a touch of cloudy eye. So I bought some Melafix, removed the carbon filter, and started dosing them for 5 days. By the 5th day, the water quality was bothering me and the eyes didn't look any better- in fact, they looked worse. So I immediately quit the meds, did a 30% water change, and popped the filter back. But now, they have cloudy eyes AND ich. I don't know how I didn't see it before, maybe because the water was a little dirty... but they are covered in cysts. One of my fish, Floxie, is taking it like a pro. She's still swimming around the tank, still active and inquisitive. But Hippo started taking a turn for the worse last night. Yesterday he was zipping around, trying to eat everthing, playing with his tank mate. Now he sits at the bottom of the tank. His eyes are far more cloudy than Floxie's; I wonder if perhaps he's having trouble seeing his way around. He will occasionally get up, suck a few rocks, chase Floxie, and then slide back down to his one corner of the tank. He's still lively when he thinks he's going to be fed. Floxie is showing no such lethargy issues, which makes me think it's not water quality. I'm going to add a .3% solution of salt to the tank, cut back to feeding them every other day, and change the water every day. Is there anything else I can do for my poor fish? I'd hate to lose either of them!

She slept in my bed, she followed me around the house, she watched tv with me, and has always been at my side. I admit that I have always encouraged this behaviour- who would deny their furry best friend? Last year we had our own apartment, with no roommates. Without other people to share the house, she became incredibly clingy. She would cry when I left for work, and would make really distressing sounds in the window. I tried all kinds of things to acclimate her to me being gone for long periods of time, but nothing really seemed to work. Now I'm living with a friend, and he tells me that she pines for me when I'm gone. I love having her company, and I would never want a less devoted pet. But now her neediness is making me lose sleep. Every morning at about 6 am (I generally get up around 10) she starts batting my face, rubbing up against me, and has even climbed under the covers and bitten my nipples. I worried for a while that she might be sick and trying to get my attention, but I'm beginning to think she's just bored. She's got plenty of interactive toys, and I make sure she gets plenty of exercise. You'd think she's attention starved, but she isn't~ she's just spoiled. How can I un-spoil her? There's no chance of getting a second cat to keep her company; my roommate is allergic to cats.
