  • What do you think of Chirac praising Zidane after the final?

This question is open to anybody who wants to answer it, but I'd also like to hear what the French think about it. "You are a virtuoso, a genius of world football," Chirac said, according to The Associated Press. "You are also a man of heart, commitment, conviction. That's why France admires and loves you." Do you think he was right, considering that he is the President, a spokesman and an example for a whole nation? No doubt Zidane is a football legend and he deserves praise for his talent, but isn't sportsmanship equally important? Vous pouvez écrire en français, si vous voulez. Je parle français aussi.

The 'sidaïque' is contagious by his sweat, his saliva, his contact. It's a kind of leper. Jean-Marie Le Pen, May 6, 1987 Yes, I do believe in the inequality of races! Jean-Marie Le Pen, August 31, 1996. If you take a book of a thousand pages on the Second World War, in which 50 million people died, the concentration camps occupy two pages and the gas chambers ten or 15 lines, and that's what's called a detail. Jean-Marie LePen December 5, 1997 Munich. Now, this guy has even run for President in France!!! But not because he's racist *ALL* French are racists. Same for Italy. Calderoli and The Northern League are the equivalent of LePen and his Front National. Guess each country has its black sheep.

Well, they are really dumb then. They could get Zidane sent off earlier in the game... Not only wouldn't he have kicked penalties for France, but he wouldn't also have tried to score against them or helped his teammates do so. Come on people, just because Materazzi is an idiot, you can't infer a whole team or a whole nation are like him!!! And stop bashing the French too, those of you who are doing so. The match is over. The World Cup is over. Italy won, but they lost to Brazil on penalty shootouts in the final in 1994. They also lost to France on penalty shootouts in the quarterfinals in 1998. This time, it was just Italy's turn to win the same exact way they lost in the past. End of the story. Or should I just start headbutting all those who are insulting Italy? ;-)

Remember that you have to be a citizen to play for a national team!!! France and England had colonies in Africa for many many years, and that favored the immigration of African people to those countries. Italy only had Ethiopia and Somalia (under Mussolini) and lost them very soon. I know I answered my question myself, but I read some stupid comments somewhere, claiming "the Italians are racist because they don't have any colored player in their team". I lived in Italy most of my life and my father worked in an office where they helped immigrants, so I know. If Materazzi really said something racist, don't you worry, he will pay for it. Man, I'm so sick to read people call us Italians "racist"!!! Grrrrrrrrr

The classically firm back line supports the central midfield tandem of Andrea Pirlo (a free kick master) and Gennaro Gattuso (a nasty enforcer), all of which leads to an attack instigated by Totti and topped by 6-foot-4 Luca Toni and Alberto Gilardino. Best-Case Scenario: Playing Brazil in the July 9 final. Worst-Case Scenario: Finish second in the group and play Brazil in the round of 16." They were wrong about Brazil though. But then again, the whole world was...

That whole Rooney-C.Ronaldo crap went on for days after that game. How long will this last? ;-) Instead of making speculations and bashing Italy, Portugal, England, or France (depending on who you root for) just be sad that the World Cup is over!!! Or happy if you didn't like it. No more World Cup matches until 2010!!!

As of now, nobody - not even the media - knows what really happened, or who said what. All we saw was Zidane's headbutt. Just because Zidane's parents are Algerian, you assume that Materazzi told him something racist. Well, that's quite a racist assumption. If you can't mentally assimilate Algerians and Muslims to everybody else in the world, then you really have a problem, folks. Plus... I don't know what you people (especially envi_v) learn in your history classes in the USA, but Italy got over Mussolini and Fascism long ago. In fact, most of the Italian population was against him, and fought side by side with the Americans to free Italy from Fascism and Nazism. When the Americans got to Italy, half of it had already been freed by the Italian Resistance movement. The few neo-nazis in Italy are regarded by most of us as what they are: IDIOTS.

I've been to France several times, and I can tell you it's a charming country. Paris is one of the most beautiful cities ever. France has good wine, good cheese, and its sophisticated cuisine is one of the most appreciated worldwide along with the Italian. They don't eat just frogs or snails. Granted, the French sometimes do sound a little snobbish and they do pronounce foreign names their own way, but they have good reasons for being proud of their country. They have a great cultural heritage -- novelists, poets, philosophers, painters, sculptors, architects. Modern art was born in France with the Impressionists. They were the first country to be a republic while all surrounding countries were still monarchies. Not all of the French vote for LePen or are racist. So, why do you people hate them? Just curious...
