This has bothered me for a while. Love is a mutual thing shared by two people that presumably care for each other and want to share, whereas sex can take place between two strangers that will never see each other again.
Tell me what you think about this. The Hebrew word for love is "ahava". The root of the word is "hav" meaning to give. When a person makes love to someone they love are giving, so they make love "to" them. To make the other person happy and to show their love. Sex is done "with" because you can have sex with anything just about. A person, an animal a piece of wood. Whether there is a feeling for the object or not, it is simply an object. Therefore it is just "with".

A person who locks himself in a box and says there is no G-d or a person who must constantly reaffirm his faith every time he must decide whether to do something. Before every act, the believer must reaffirm in his mind that he has a G-d he believes in and then decide if this action is in accordance with the will of that G-d.11 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade ago
