  • The jr ISA -have you taken such an ISA at the Halifax this year?

I was recently told that if I have an ISA and also open a jr ISA for my child the jr ISA would attract a 6% interest. Is this correct? Would this be a good investment?

But the money would be locked for some years, until the child turns 18, isn't it?

I am not sure if they really give the said interest or is there any catch in this type of saving?

Have any of you done this recently? Interested what finance experts think of this offer from Halifax?

    thanks

  • Can somebody explain to me why Palestine should not have a seat in the UN?

Why has the US already announced that it would veto their entry in the UN?

The politics is confusing, just don't understand it.

  • What is your favourite John le Carre book/novel?

I love reading his novels and watch the many films that have been made from his stories. have not yet been to the remake of Tinker, Tailor..., loved the old one with Alec Guiness. Will soon go to watch the new movie, of course.

Recently read his novel Our Game and bit dissapointed with the story...

I love Le Carre's books although the one above was not so good for me..

  • Monk fans, how do you feel about the series finale today?

Are they never going to make anymore? It is one of the few stories we watch at home and its finished! But thank God they did a nice, sweet ending. I can live with that.

Was going crazy fr weeks that they might do Mr Monk in, kill him off or something horrible and swore i would get up there and kill the makers myself if they dared to do that at all!

Natalie is so sweet, and so are the Captain, Randy seems to have become a Chief and all great. Long suffering Natalie is really my favourite, she is so caring and thoughtful even after all the fuss Monk makes.

Finally Mr Monk is happy! Can hardly believe my eyes!

  • What is the Riemann hypothesis? Apparently set in 1859, it is still not solved!?

Why? Has anyone attempted to solve this at anytime?

Where are all our mathematical geniuses? Have any of you tried to crack it?

tell me about this unsolved hypothesis.

Open to all at YA, and definitely for the mathematical geniuses here to explain whatever you know about this mysterious hypothesis that no one has so far solved.

  • Boiler breaking down often, how dangerous is it?

Our boiler is an old boiler, not a combi one, it is frequently going off and we have had such a rough winter with it as we are left with no heating or hot water many times. The pilot light also has gone off so many times thro' the year, just fed up with it all as i have been very ill this winter. I need some peace!

Complaints to landlord has brought no joy as he is happy only to replace small parts from time to time, but refuses to replace with a new one.

I think it is old and had its time.

Is it dangerous? Are we in danger of CO poisoning? What can i do to redress this issue?

    it is a HIDEAWAY GLOWWORM.

  • Windows security showing virus threats in PC?

Last night when i clicked on a link following a search on Firefox, some files suddenly downloaded and Windows security popped up to show there is virus and a list of virus eg confliker, win32 something and one was marked critical threat. The windows security showed 9 virus in the C-hard drive, 1 in My docs, and 1 in another part of hard drive.

I have run my antivirus AVG twice now and v-cleaner once but no virus is detected so far, only tracking cookies, still running.

What is the best thing to do to get rid of these threats, worried about infected files and what damage if any is done already? I have restored the computer to the as on 19th by system restore but not sure if that will help.

techies and experts here could you pl guide me to clean any hidden threats in my pc, i am afraid to open any of my documents or use a program?

    thanks!

  • Have you bought any property in an auction?

What was your experience? Did you buy your home this way?

Is it better to look for a home in auctions than the open market? Was it easy to finance and get a good deal?

  • Oil spill -- is it not possible to install a large enough pipeline over the mouth of the oil spill and siphon?

off the oil into tanker ships? Has anything like this been attempted so far?

Surely by now, after several disastrous oil spills round the world such a system would be kept on as a Plan B?

I really think it would be a better and easier job to siphon off the spill rather than try to stop it because stoppage could create a burst up elsewhere.

see the oil spill ticker here, its so alarming and almost 50 days gone by and threatening to get much worse!

  • What would Ayn Rand have to say about the collapse of capitalism now if she were here?

Objectivism, free enterprise and capitalism was her bible, but we are witnessing a complete collapse of the system. The No:1 capitalist country is in a severe economic mess bringing several other countries down with it, so what would Ayn Rand or a Randian make of this or explain the failure of free enterprise?

Surely, free enterprise has led to excessive greed and brought everything down and the country itself to an economic collapse leading to a chain reaction pulling many other nations into recession?
