  • Where can I hire a Satellite Phone from in Perth? (need it this Sunday)?

I'm about to do the trip across the Nullabor starting this coming Sunday.

As this trip was only planned today - I have left it a tad late to have one delivered by some of the online companies that offer the service as there is not enough time for the delivery.

I am hoping to find somewhere that I could pick one up on Saturday? I will also no longer be needing it once I reach Canberra/Sydney so preferably I'd like to return it there, but otherwise send it back by express post.

If anyone knows of a company where I could pick up a short term rental I'd be grateful.

  • Driving Perth to Brisbane via Adelaide - I need advise please!?

I am planning to drive from Perth to Brisbane with a few days stop in Adelaide (from what I can see, Adelaide is on the way so I figured we'd stay there a few days as I have never been to this city before).

I've not ever crossed the Nullabor, or driven on any of the road between Perth and Brisbane for that matter. I am hoping to do it over a week, so with 6 overnight stops altogether. I know this will be a push but I would think it is doable?

Can anyone please advise where would be some ideal places to stop for the night across the Nullabor, and should I be booking in advance or is it fine to just book into the first place I see before sunset? Also - what is the general cost of accommodation over the Nullabor and for the drive from Adelaide to Brisbane?

I have a Mitsubishi 380, great condition but it is a sedan car, not a 4WD with bullbars, will I be ok doing this long journey in a regular car?

any advice about this journey would be greatly appreciated, as I am a bit lost on where to start looking for information or how much things cost, if I am crazy thinking of doing this in a regular car etc.

I only plan to drive during day light hours for safety reasons.

Thank you in advance for your replies :)

  • Default debt in Australia - I have $400 owing on the debt... is it worth paying?

let me explain in further detail. I had a $1600 debt with Three Mobile back in 2009. The bill was a major overcharge and I disputed it with Three Mobile who obviously knew they were at some fault as they halved the bill. However, I was very stubborn at the time and I demanded that I wouldn't pay until they drop all of it as I wasn't going to pay for half of their mistake.

Being young at the time and not too aware... this bill went into default at full price for $1600. At first I refused to pay it but then I realised this wasn't going to go away, and so when I was sent a letter by the debt collector, they gave me two options... pay the full price of the debt for $1600 or pay a settlement for $1200. I chose the settlement, paid the $1200 and everything was fine. They were off my back and happy with this.

However... I found out a few years later (when Three was bought out by Vodafone) that there was a new debt collection agency following the debt and they were asking me to pay the additional $400. A bit annoyed I tried to explain I'd paid a settlement... but as this phone call came about 2 years after I had already paid the settlement... I couldn't quite remember exactly what month or date I paid it, and I no longer had the letter they originally sent me and so therefore no real proof that there was a settlement figure had been offered, they just have it noted that $1200 was paid as a 'part payment'.

So now... that default will be off my credit file in April 2014 as it would be 5 years by then. Would they sue me at the last minute to recover $400? I know that if I pay it, it won't make any difference as it will still remain on my credit history anyway.

Also - can they try suing me after the debt is removed from my credit file? I don't want to be sued for such a small amount and have that on my record for another 5 years but I just don't know if paying that debt is going to make any difference or not.

  • What currency will get my Bali Visa quickest at Denpasar Airport?

I am going to Bali this coming Saturday for the first time (I am an Australian citizen/passport holder).

I understand that upon arrival you need to line up to purchase an 'on arrival' which will cost you USD$25.

I read that there are different lines depending on your form of payment (USD, AUD, Euro's, Rupiah, credit card etc).

Could someone please tell me what currency will see me get through the line quickest? I am going to purchase a small amount of Rupiah to help me out upon arrival (for taxi's, first nights meals and drinks etc until I go to the money changer the next day - apparently you'll get a better exchange rate over there than here in Perth).

As I am exchanging some money I was thinking I might buy some USD to pay for the visa on arrival. I read this can sometimes be quicker but this is from old forums back in 2009... is that still the case?

  • What area should I stay in Bali?

I'm going to Bali for the first time ever in a few weeks. I am going to be there 5 nights total.

I've been doing my research on the areas and I am finding it hard to decide what area to stay. This is what I'm looking for:

I would like to stay in a pool villa but I also would like the added comforts of it being part of a hotel (not a stand alone villa) so that there are also other facilities to use outside of the room, plus I would also like there to be a restaurant etc nearby.

Although I do like the beach, I am more concerned about having a nice tranquil place to stay where I can 'rest' and 'recharge' - I can always take a trip to the beach in a taxi or walk. I notice that most places on the beach are large hotels which either charge a fortune for a pool villa type room or they just don't have them at all.

I love the idea of Nusa Dua because it sounds as though it is pretty and a nice relaxing resort style area... but then I also like the idea of Seminyak because it is vibrant and full of restaurants and perhaps a bit more culture than Nusa Dua?

Is there a happy medium where it is nice and relaxing like Nusa Dua but with a bit of culture and a variety of restaurants too? Jimbaran perhaps?

I want to be somewhere that is nice and relaxing (and preferably not full of children) yet is still fairly easily accessible by foot or cab to restaurants and the action

    Please help - totally stuck.

  • Is maintaining a "Company" structure in Australia really that difficult and expensive?

I'm about to start my own business and I've been researching the different business structures to choose from.

To start with, this company will be very small (home based) and there won't be any money being made for quite some time... could even be up to a year at the most before we start seeing a penny. However, in my plans it will become a lot bigger and start generating money eventually.

There are two of us involved and to start with a Partnership would have been good but in my research I see that it is quite difficult to change the structure and that you are best to choose the correct structure from the beginning. I would eventually see it being more suited to a "Company" structure in the long term which is why I want to register the business as a Company right from the start.

I've done a fair amount of research online and I don't see much 'actual' information about exactly what reports you are required to provide on a periodical basis with the company structure. All I keep reading is that it is "expensive" and "complicated" ... as far as I've seen so far there is just an annual report (usually due on the anniversary of the date you registered the company) and that it cost about $500 to set up... to me that doesn't sound complicated or expensive. Maybe it just becomes more complicated once you actually start making profits and claiming expenses against the company etc?

To begin with - I won't really have much expense and all the capital will be from my own personal funds.

Would love some advice either here or where I might be able to find it for myself with more detail. I want to make sure that I am ready to take on the responsibility of a company structure even though I am still starting out small.

  • Does a parent have any legal control over a 16 year old in Australia?

My sister is a single parent in Australia and currently her 16 year old daughter is giving her grief, as young girls her age do.

At present, my niece has a boyfriend and she is becoming out of control since they been together. She is now going out whenever she likes, coming home whenever she likes, because she knows now that she is 16, she has the law on her side and my sister cannot stop her.

Although she is 16, she is still under the full care of my sister. I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice on any legal rights my sister might have that might help her control her out of control teenager? From what I can see, there is not much she can do about her legally other than just let her run a riot and do whatever she likes.

    Thank you in advance

  • Colorectal cancer - can I still have anal sex after having my rectum removed?

4 years ago I was diagnosed with Colorectal cancer, a tumour near the opening of my anus in my rectum.

I had surgery to have it removed and I believe I had quite a large amount of bowel taken out of me. I was then told I was having this thing called a 'jpouch' put in, and I was 'joined back' together with a metal piece that the doctor warned me I would have to be 'careful' if I have any 'intercourse' as the metal joining does not stretch and so things could get stuck.

I am a gay male and I use to have an active 'versatile' sex life up until the surgery. Since the surgery, I have not performed being a bottom during sex, only top. I really do miss being a bottom but I've been a bit scared about what the doctor had told me about being careful. The thing is, he didn't say I couldn't, he just said to be careful.

Anyway, I didn't really like that doctor as he didn't make me feel comfortable with him so I never really asked him any further questions. But I am just wanting to know, from any doctors or people who are in my situation... can I be a bottom again or is that pretty much a chapter in my life that has come to an end?

Please only serious answers, I do not want to have smart remarks about this situation or my sexuality, this is a serious question that I want genuine answers to.

    Thank you kindly in advance

  • Brisbane to Perth Qantas Business Class, is it worth it?

I'm going to Perth in a few weeks time and I've booked to go in economy on Qantas. I have a tonne of points and I thought I might use some and treat myself to an upgrade. Generally I haven't bothered with domestic upgrades but I thought seeing as I have so many points and it is a 5 hour 40 minute flight, it might be worth considering.

I would like to know of anyone who has flown on Qantas Business Class from Brisbane to Perth if the upgrade is worth it or should I just save my points and stay in economy? I do fly Business Class on international flights and I do enjoy it but I'm just not sure if I can expect much the same domestically.

    Thank you in advance

  • Why does my right arm and shoulder ache for no reason?

This afternoon I was having a nice normal day when suddenly my arm began to ache. I ignored it at first but as the day has gone on, my arm is aching more and it has worked it way up to my shoulder too. I didn't do anything strenuous other than some shopping. I also feel extremely lethargic and just not good in general. All I've done since is lay on the sofa and try to ignore the pain. Two panadol painkillers didn't help ease it either. Should I be concerned about this?

  • any good pattern makers & sewing services in Manila, Philippines?

I am starting my own mens underwear range. Currently I have sketched designs but I need to get samples made out of my designs.

I am going to Manila next week for a vacation for a few weeks and I thought while I am there I might try to get the samples made there.

Does anyone know of a great pattern maker and sewing service in Manila that would be able to take my designs and create sew me some samples?

In the future when the samples are perfected I will be then looking into getting someone to produce large orders of them but for now I just need the samples to show an online shop who is interested.

  • How much does C-Design cost? Specifically - OptiTex®?

    Hi All,

I am starting my own line of mens underwear and I am looking for software that can help me visualise my designs in 3D before making samples.

I have come across this software called C-Design, there are many different types of software, and I am having an online meeting with a consultant tomorrow - and she seems to think that their OptiTex® software would suit my needs best.

Does anybody have any idea roughly how much I could be expecting to pay for all of this? I just want a rough estimate so I am fully aware before the online meeting tomorrow.

  • Fashion Design Software - to design mens underwear?

I want to start a line of mens underwear. I have sketches but I want to use a software program to create my designs on so that I can see a visual of what my designs look like on a virtual model. I also am wanting something that can help me get the measurements required by a manufacturer.

I am struggling to find something online and would really appreciate some help in the right direction.

  • Is Perth really abundant with jobs?

I currently live in Queensland. I am 29 years old, have a Bachelor of Commerce degree and have worked in various roles doing administration and policy writing for the government.

I now have found myself unemployed for the past 8 months due to a mini recession, no one is hiring and everyone is being laid off.

Is it true Perth has a lot jobs? I have come to the decision that I need to move elsewhere as I am habing no luck here. I have also never been to Perth, is it okay to living there?

  • Best option for high quality video calls?

I am about to start a business that will require me to be able to dial into my office via video-link on a regular basis.

Now I know of Skype and I have an account, however, I find Skype to be delayed and very poor quality visually.

Does anyone have any suggestions of something better that might work?
