I have been renting a room from "friends" since December. We both signed a month to month contract. Recently I was told by them that I needed to pay rent for next month 16 days early because they're "afraid" I won't make rent on time. I have never missed a rent day so this was upsetting to hear from them. Turns out they are moving and don't own the house I'm renting a room in. In other words they were trying to scam me. They constantly have been very rude to me and continue to threaten me in all ways. One of the threats is that because they don't actually own the house, they will call the police and have me removed for trespassing. They told me that the person who does own the house said they can have this done because the owner did not know of my lease. Is any of this true and if so what are my options if any?
