I used to use a Acer compact desktop with XP, the version isn't mentioned on the opening page but it's a budget machine so Home/ Basic would be my guess, using an AMD X2. I live in a house of multiple occupancy and there was always problems connecting Vista and XP machines but it was my connection so XP it was. Looking back it might have been a different router with another network provider then, I'm on BT Home Hub now but it used to be Orange/ Freeview. Eventually the XP machine broke so I bought an Acer 5735 using a Core 2 Duo and running Vista Basic. I just brought it home, plugged it in and off it went, no problems at all. As well as all this I have an Archos PMA430 which runs on a Linux distribution and that always worked fine. Today I got on with fixing the old XP machine and got it going again, a tough fit on a memory card and eagerly connected it. Thing is it just wouldn't connect. I disabled the network card on the new Vista machine and it appeared to got on with things, the little globe appeared in the task bar and all seemed well but I couldn't open a web page. Windows Live Messenger thought it was a gateway issue, could anyone give me any ideas?
